Listen to Steve(GMR), I run 3.37 gearing(lower than your stock 3.15 gearing) with my 120 and can get 40+ if I ride it normal.

you can take a bike and add 1-2 degrees of timing in the mid section and move the Afr .1 tenth and pick up 3-5 MPG.. Most of the time the increase in timing will lower the engine temp as it is more efficient . Under light throttle low load you can run the bike lean with a high advance of timing.

Look at the EVO they had 3.37 gearing did not make much power and had a carb . Yes they would get 38-42 MPG and to run 80 MPH you had to run the rpm up fairly high compared the newer cruise drive bikes. Then look at the early carb and EFI 5 speed bikes again not a bunch of power so you have to throttle them up when running down the high way and they too also got 38-42 MPG range.

Look at it this way. If it takes 15% throttle with given power on tap  with a stock bike to run down the road at 75 MPH , a bike that makes more power will need less throttle to maintain that same speed/ load .. That is the reason why many of the bigger builds do really get great MPG.

Lean the tune out in the light cruise bump the timing I bet you will see that nice increase you are looking for .

What tuner is on the bike??

bike is tuned with power vision. timing was retarded in the midrange because it would ping on roll on. I may need to speak with the tuner again. can it be setup to run a different timing on acceleration? i suppose its possible with todays onboard computers, but that dont make sense to the small block chevy racer in me. Thanks for the info and i will visit with the tuner and see what, if anything, can be done. the plugs show to be perfect from my opinion....

today's pump fuel is not something can be read really. Due to  corn juice and the additives that are being used.  The PV is a fine tuning tool and again your MPG on the hwy is very low even if you are turning the higher rpm ...  You may find that the tune is not ocrrect due to 02 sensors not in the correct location .. or getting mis infomation many many things can lead to this. But as a tuner some times you have to run more than one set of sensors to get back up data. We always run two sets but that is how we do it.

It would not be the first time that sensor bungs are mis-located or have not enough reach for the sensor , getting cross talk due to poor pipe , more modded stock pipe..  Adaptive fuel can do this but I would think you have had this issue from the start so that may not be the case.

i had some mpg issues, 30 to 33ish, changed the pipe and went to a TTS tuner, just for some thing different, and used someone other than my local talent to tune it, mpg went up to 40. but there was a ping at lower rpm roll on, so my tuner tweeked the timing tables,no more ping and mpg went up to 41 to 43 on the highway...37 to 38ish when im showing off  :nixweiss: and who knows there might be more in it, wouldnt it be nice if steve could do house calls

Fast, it looks like you got some impressive MPG gains changing the Pipe and Tune :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21:
You were putting up some big #s before, any significant change in the #s or curves?

this is what it looks like now, dropped a few points but the mpg was worth it...butt dyno says its better tho and i got 20k miles on this build now, so over all im ok with it just waiting for the stock crank to puke out and see what i can do on the next one...it never ends you know

We have a client with one of our 124" engines that has reported back to us he has seen as high as 54 mpg.

After owning/tuning on a Dyno for almost 20 years now, we heat cycle them, 13 mile method-specific test ride unless inclement weather, and then tune.
NEVER have we had an issue in regards.
The sooner you can have the engine running correctly, the better.

So with all that tuning YOU do .. Why not tell us what you would do with the PV to increase his MPG. Sounds likes you have it figured out tuning wise..  54 MPG   is unbelievable fuel mileage This OP has no sloppy Joe PC tune going on ..

PV is a extremely powerful tuning tool. I am sure you have tuned 100+ bikes with that tuner at this point right?
