During the months I live in San Diego, I ride with a group of folks that are not by design all Harley riders. One guy has three Victorys. Another recently purchased a new Indian that is HUGE. Total weight is close to 1,200lbs. The design is very unique and in my opinion, looks like what an Indian would look like today had the orginal Indian Motorcycle Co continued to thrive. I believe that like H-D they would have continued to hold onto the past as regards styling while moving forward engineering wise. This bike is not for me for two reasons. A) lack of a worldwide dealer network like H-D B) The weight. That's just nuts. Color wise, it's a personal thing. The green bike that's getting knocked around on this thread is actually kind retro cool (IMO) even though green is just not my thing.
Time will tell on this iteration of the Indian. I don't think it's a negative that Polaris is involved. They have huge resources and if it's gonna surivive then it needs those resources. CMC could not weather the storm of warranty repairs. Same thing with the outfit that Bransom Richard was spokesperson for. Ultimately that has done in all prior efforts. Once the new owners start bring them in for repairs that a covered under warranty and the factory has to reimburse the dealership for those repairs, it all falls apart. Look at what almost killed GM a few years ago. I would guess that while not every Polaris dealer would carry the bikes, they most likely could get you parts for them. You'd be on your own for the mechanical side of it but barring major stuff, that might work. Only time will tell.
Bottom line for me is that I think it's great that H-D has some competition for our dollars. It keeps them for getting complacent and perhaps even nudges them to be a bit more competitive in pricing. One can hope So I say hurrah for Indian
