Well GM played the same game as Harley is playing. With a we don't need you we have lots of customers that will continue to buy our products no matter how bad they are and how terrible our service is attitude. We all know what happened to them! they went bankrupt and needed to be bailed out.
I remember very clearly when the American car companies had that attitude of "You'll buy what we give you--and you will like it."  That's when I stopped buying American cars.  I didn't buy another until 1997, when quality had improved tremendously.  That's the benefit of a true capitalism (free market) system: competition forces improvements in quality and price.  That's why I'm cheering for Victory and Indian to keep the pressure on HD.

Sounds like someone got to the dealership and convinced them to change their story.

Jerry
Sure sounds like it.  Meanwhile, MoCo can't figure out why their sales dropped so much...  :confused5:

Two techs at the dealer took it for a ride. The one said it was normal and they all do that. I said there was know way that was normal
it shook as soon as I picked it up new last week. I noticed the vibration as soon as I shifted into second gear so there's no way it's normal.
The second tech said that the 110 vibrates more than the 103's. I said again that's in no way normal. He said that he didn't have another 110 to compare it to. But he finally said he would contact the area service rep. Haven't heard anything back.

Thanks for the input guys. I will check the exhaust and see what I can find.

GRC has got it right. I have the 15 RGU CVO, it's smooth.

I had an '11 RGU CVO with 60k miles. The heat shields were rattling against the right hand floor boards. So the rattling and vibration was in the lower front floorboard area, not the handlebars. It turned out that the heat shields were so close because the motor mounts had completely worn out on the front mounts.

If not the exhaust, look into defective mounts.

Best of luck,
DH

Called the NY dealer to see what was up.
They had one tech take it for a drive and he said he couldn't get it to vibrate or rattle like the other tech did?
I said what did you do to it because it has vibrated since day one he said they did nothing to it.
I told him to make sure it's warmed up and hold it at 3100 in any gear you will feel it.
They are going to have the same tech that rode it the first time check it again. :-\

Maybe the tech that couldn't get it to vibrate or rattle is an old timer that still rides a Harley from the AMF days...so to him it's normal.  I remember riding an AMF-Harley that rattled so bad the speedometer was blurry and you had no idea what you were looking at in mirror do to it shaking so much.

Not to make lite of your situation...keep escalating until you get your results and keep good record.

I am not sure if you have access to a vibration meter.  This would give you some hard data to compare to other bikes.

We used a fluke vibration meter in the field to determine if industrial fans/blowers needed to be rebalanced.

I would let you borrow it but I am now retired and don't have access to it.

Good luck!!

I have to agree with 100% with the post from guppytrash.  I was thinking about having more wind protection than the 08 SERK when I came to reality about all the repair work I had to have done to keep it going and to make it somewhat reliable.  If the MOCO kept the same philosophy while being in the auto industry it would be out of business in record time.  I'm not telling or advising anyone on what to do with there money but I know the MOCO will not get another dime from me for a new bike.  You can't beat the looks but looks aren't everything.

That is so true. Harleys are like a beautiful women, nice to look at but some times not so great at other things but you can overlook their short comings to a point!
Update: The dealer in NY called and said another tech took the bike out DID feel the vibration and hear the engine noise I was talking about.
Apparently pulled the side cover and checked the compensator said it was in spec and called the Harley tech line to see what to do next. Will wait and see what they find!

We all love our Harleys, but you know what maybe the time has come to dip our toes into Indian waters. Some say there is a new model soon something like the CVO range time will tell.
I will never sell my Harleys, but i have room in my shed for another  :2vrolijk_21:

Not all dealers are sub par, and every motorcycle has their issues. All one has to do is visit a goldwing or beemer site. I have been riding Harley Davidsons for over 40 years, while I have rode others, they just don't have the "soul" or are Americana like a HD IME.

True...  But when it's yours with the issue and when it's your dealer letting you down, that's all that matters...

I rode a new Indian at the debut in Sturgis and was impressed but they were missing the tour pack and the lowers.
But with the introduction of the road master they have most of the bases covered.  But..... They still don't have the dealer network that Harley has.
We travel cross country every summer and have never had a bad experience at a Harley dealer while on the road.
That's one of the reasons I have stuck with Harley. Try and find a Honda, Kawi, BMW, or for that matter an Indian dealer open on a Sat. If you could find one at all. A fellow rider told me of his friend that bought a new Moto Guzzi went cross country, washed it a car wash and fried the computer. Had to have the bike towed almost a 1000 miles to a dealer that could fix it. There's always a Harley dealer within an hour or two while on the road.

Totally agree, once the bike is sorted we tend to forget about all the issues. But there is a growing movement towards the Harley stick poking. Mr Harley really does need to pull up his socks or he could find himself sleeping on the street. My bike is fine but still after 5 months i am waiting on some paint work to be sorted  :nixweiss: All we do is wait. :confused5:

Maybe the Indian's don't need the dealer network, because they don't break!!! Several riders around local here with Indians spend their money adding doo-dads, none have reported recalls, problems or failures of even a bulb. They just ride em"

Shame that HD uses the customer as a beta-tester for some of the stuff, but it seems that has been that way for some time.
