6th build. Rev Perf cylinders, Axtell 20* Stroker pistons, WFO Larry 110 heads cut to match pistons, T-Man 662-2 cams This is the build I rode to the WV & MV GTG. The heads, cylinders and pistons set up by Randy @ Hyperformance with instructions to get the compression up to 10.8 -1. Randy sent everything back saying most he was comfortable doing was 10.4.
My builder got her back together but was having severe personal mental issues. This issue has been addressed between us, I’m not willing to go farther into it. At first everything seemed great. Got it tuned with no issue. 131 hp / 131 tq. CCP 195. Man I was living high on the hog. On the way to WV GTG, I heard an odd, intermittent noise. I was unable to track it down but it sounded like it was coming from the cam chest. A few at the GTG heard the noise too but uncertain what it was.
After the WV GTG I parked Lexi and took Vanessa or Ruby on several other rides. It was now Lexi turn for the MV run. I had my new builder listen for the noise. He heard it a couple of times but no idea what it was without looking inside noise. I asked him to change the lifters. He did but said I was probably wasting my time. But hell I read all about it on the internet.
I heard the noise a number of times on the rides in MV. Unbalanced said she was burning oil which she had just started to do, about a qt. every 1000 miles or so. Upon returning home I dropped her off to my wrench. Here’s a list of the issues he found.
• Secondary cam chain tensioner reassembled incorrectly allowing the chain to whip striking the oil pump, scoring the case
• Left side cam support plate alignment pin missing
• Some of the bolt used to install the cam support plate were ¼” too long. They bottomed out with no clamping force on the plate
• Cam Support Plate had enough play cause damage to the plate
• Valve seal was stuck to the valve
• Rear exhaust valve seat was loose
• Oil was not able to circulate to the piston oiler allowing cylinders to be damaged
• Several of the threaded holes had to have heli-coils installed.
Hearing that chain striking the oil pump probably saved the rest of the motor. So now….
6A build. Axtell cylinder repaired and ball honed, + .030 20* Stroker pistons re-ringed, new cam support plate, T-Man 662-2 cams. CCP 200 / 195. 132 hp / 134 tq. I’ve only got a couple of hundred miles so far this winter. The motor sounds happy, quiet. Time will tell. I should have drove her off US 60 were the road slid down the mountain during the WV GTG.
My Stupid has no limits.
