So just off the phone with service. He said the mother ship kicked back the warranty service because the fuel pump had a blocked vent. When he told them this was the 2nd pump and identified the bike they said they have been having problems. They claim/feel that polishing media during paint/production got in the tank and is taking the pumps out. So it's going back to have the tank removed and cleaned. Just an FYI/update  for anyone with this issue.

Isn't that just like the Mother Ship! >:( They know they have major issues but won't admit it until squeezed a bit.

thing is when he first called and left a message I took it as they were trying to point to bad fuel. As he explained the conversation, they have basically though unofficially admitted a supposed problem in their manufacturing and or paint process. The additional cleaning is at their cost and I figure it protects me on the warranty if the current pump goes bad again. As I posted before they say the pump is updated with a new part number so they obviously know it is a problem. The only further thought I had after conversation of bringing bike in and waiting on it versus dropping it off (2 trips) he said we could just wait to see how next week shapes up weather wise and I could ride there. Called him back later with the thought was if they are saying it is due to polishing media though I realize this would be an issue of clogging the pump what is the effect of what is getting beyond the pump on injectors, cylinders etc. While in agreement this may be a very minor issue to me even a polishing compound =grit. Not a good thing after doing a $5000.00 engine build. I will trailer it there.

On the positive side, they're working with you to make it right. Gotta give them credit for that. Hopefully this will be the last fuel pump and all will be well afterwards.  :)

Believe me I did give them all the credit for exactly that. Update is tank was drained and it looked kinda like skim milk left in the bottom. Just like polishing compound mixed with a little gas would.

I see..  how different are they from the heads that come on the SE 110 motor?

They are cnc ported, race springs and I believe a 2.120 intake valve. I believe the 110 heads have a 2.080 valve. Others on this forum can tell you  the exact differences and probably their dislikes.I don't  doubt you would probably do as well having the 110 heads reworked which they will advise. It was mostly a decision of time for me.

130hp and 120ft-lb is nice. I've seen many 120R's make less.

What compression is the 117 kit?  Might be the next step in my list of mods to crack the 200hp mark..

Other than the barrels being black I can not see any reason why they won't fit a 2013?

Would only need the cylinders and pistons... :freak:

Sorry I can't make the correlation to material in the tank to an upgraded pump because of it.

Coincidence but don't see cause/effect.   Do you have more data on it beyond a paint manufacturing issues = or leads to Harley putting out a new pump or updated pump?

First to Bretto. You have the numbers backwards. 120 hp. 130 tq. They make the barrels in granite also. From what I understand there are two kits and barrel/jugs. The only difference is the 14 later designation is they can use a downloaded tune whereas previous years must use a tuner. The parts are the same.   Unbalanced, the first pump they replaced was same as original pump. The second one they told me was an upgraded pump (apparently they know there is an issue with the originals). It was when they sent it in under warranty for the replacement that HMS. questioned the work because of the mods. After some argument from the manager at service and he (HMS) was told it was 2nd pump on a CVO breakout he admitted they were having problems and concluded that polishing media had gotten in the tanks during paint process and was clogging the pumps and subsequently causing the failure. My service manager said he was just listening at this point. I was there when the tank was drained and as I posted there was substance in the tank. It was cleaned and flushed all at suggestion of HMS and their cost and the pump covered under warranty so kudos to HMS. I posted this for info for anyone with this issue already so they may wish to clean their tank and if having one replaced they may want to urge their service department to try to get approval for cleaning.
