I have always stated we the Harley consumer are the uncompensated R&D Team of Harley Davidson and we pay a hefty membership fee.

If that is in fact current Harley policy for engine repairs under the factory warranty, it's a new one on me.  They've done lots of part replacement repairs under factory warranty in the past.  Normally a manufacturer only does something like what you described during the launch of a new model, to get rapid feedback on any design or part quality issues.  I would expect them to do it with the new M8, but it makes no sense on the old 110.  Everyone already knows all the design and part quality problems that engine has had since day one.

A few years ago many people on this site were complaining that Harley wouldn't replace the complete engine under the factory warranty.  The ones I remember that were replaced tended to be engines with major bottom end failures, not top end issues.

I agree with you, except I have issue with a new crate motor that was bench tested prior to being released in such poor condition, or don't they bench test them? A brand new motor shouldn't have to be torn into, it's that simple. The Motor Company line techs can either build motors or they can't, that's why the motor must go back. Anything that impacts the customer is critical and deserves priority and an answer. A lazy lifter doesn't cut it.

Hey Fastfreddy, they replaced the oil pan. When Harley sends out a new engine now, they include a new oil pan, they say it's too hard to get the old one clean---that's what I was told.

I'll have to agree.  I pay a pretty hefty fee.  Now two M-8s at the house, my CVO and my wife's new 17 Road Glide Special.  I do this in spite of all the issues I had with twin cams

Yes, Donna got a 2017 black road glide special.  We then swapped the custom paint from the 2015.  We also put all the accessories from the 15 on it like chrome wheels, front end, luggage rack, garage door opener transmitter, heated grips, CB and so on.
