Question:

Is anyone using Mobile 1  15-50 in their bike?

I stopped using it only for the reason that when they went to the extended interval oil they jacked the price up. I used to get the 5 QT jugs at Wal*Mart for $21 and change. Not anymore. It's now like $7/qt, which is more than I pay for Amsoil. I ran 15w-50 red cap for about 5 years / 40,000 miles and had great luck with it. But then again, it was car oil, and I was told by other riders who used Syn3, it was going to make my motor grenade any day if I kept running that car oil in my bike. Nope. Never did.

Thanks Chief.  The Mobil website has all sorts of hoopla about how the moto oil differs from auto oil & the alphabet soup rating letters do differ slightly.

Appears the syn oil manufacturers have a bird nest on the ground as to oil profitability.

Well, they've got to build a logical case for the higher price somehow. The 15w-50 was a real popular choice, but now I think buying Amsoil by the case is the way to go. I've got my cost to less than $7/qt.

So, How is that filter doing? Let us know!
It's doing fine as far as I know.  Bike is running great!  Haven't changed the oil yet, but I will in a couple of weeks or so.  I'm doing a long weekend in Daytona in a couple of days, and it will be due for a change when I get back, and prior to my trip to the NC & TN mountains at the end of the month.  Stay tuned...I'll report if I see any problems when I remove it and take it apart in a couple of weeks.

Very interested to read your report.  Appears to be an excellent filter.

SCRM-R,

When are you going to be in Daytona Area?  Let me know I live 20-30 minutes from there.

I am using the K&P Engineering SS filter and have put 1100 miles on with one oil change thusfar.  Filter was clean on removal, easy to clean and reinstall.  So far I am very pleased and it looks great too!

SCRM-R,

When are you going to be in Daytona Area?  Let me know I live 20-30 minutes from there.
Arriving Friday afternoon with a small group of four couples.  Staying at the hotel at Destination Daytona. Some are NASCAR fans, so we will be visiting the speedway, among other things, on Saturday.  Leaving for home on Sunday.  Just a weekend away is all...

Guess I had missed this thread all together.  Last week I was reading my new Hot Rod Bike mag and saw the test on the PP filter. Sounded good to me, and I'm due for an oil change anyway, so I ordered one. Then I remembered seeing a thread about pure power and did a search. Guess I'll go ahead and be a guinea pig on this one. I didn't order any of their oil as I didn't see any 20/50. I suppose I'll just stick with Mobil one as it's easy to get.

I now use Mobil I V-Twin 20/50   Used to use the Redline stuff, but I had trouble ordering it from myoilshop, then I ordered from Summit, but they said it was backordered, so I switched to Mobil I cause Cycle Gear, which is close to me carries it all the time. I still have Redline tranny and primary fluids to last 4 or 5 more changes.  Once you use the pink stuff, I would be a shame to change that.

That was my next question....have they verified the fitment with the oil coolers we have and also the O2 sensors for both stock and TMax systems?

I really like the piece, and want it to fit....

I guess if we had access to the tech sheet to get the overall dimensions, we could answer these questions ourselves.

TC -

I have installed the K & P version of this type of oil filter.  Its overall dimensions are slightly smaller then the stock filter, so there are no fitment issues.  This type filter has been around  - used in the high performance automotive arena for years, so the technology is well proven.  Its advantage is it flows higher volume with less resistance, so it "robs" less of your motor's horsepower (to spin the oil pump).  Another advantage is the reduced friction creates less heat.  As far as the basic reason for having an oil filter (filtration) it is every bit as adequate as a paper filter - and if you are into enviromental stuff, as long as you aren't dumping cleaning solvents into the ground, it is a "green" product too!

Here is a photo of one of the filters installed on my bike.  The results from my official SAE corrected dynobuttometer indicates a solid increase of 8 hp & 9 tq., :P with a 9.1 increase on the blingometer scale. ;D  Seriously, it is a quality made piece, and looks great too...I sure hope that it filters as good as they say :nixweiss:  I'll report back if I encounter any problems.

OK for real,  has anyone done a true before and after dyno test besides hot bike mag?

So is there any place to buy one of these Pure Power oil filters other than their website?  Specifically, for less than $199?
