Thanks Howie...I'd love to but alas I must toil at a job for beer, rent and cigar money, the rest I waste.
I would like to more time off to ride, just ain't in the cards right now.
 
It has been 3 weeks I guess.  My painter did spend two week fixing my fuc* up on the wifes Dyna (Dragonfly Green color change paint).  He did not like the 1st attempt and ended up redoing the whole top half.  It came out perfect.

The Black Ice is on the bags, fairing and looks outstanding, It should be soon, 2-3 weeks maybe depending on the striper/leaf master.  The VLD is due next week also, so I am thrashing around like a run over snake to make room for it.

dont know about saddle bags and cans..... but a king tour-pak holds a case of bottles on ice with room to spare

It's a fun quote.  And it's harmless.  It's almost universally accepted anymore since it's been on mugs and tshirts and hats and bras.  But it's wrong.  Franklin was actually more a wine man than a beer man.  He did write moderately similar (but only moderately similar) about wine once.  That's probably where the "beer" quote came from.  But he never actually wrote the beer thing and there's not a credible citation anywhere for him having said it.

Paint by Gene just called and confirmed that my bags made it there in perfect condition. My fate is in Gene's hands now. I hope he does an awesome job on them. Stay tuned here for the pics of the finished product! Hoist!

Hoist and TNFatBoy - make sure you let us know how the paint job from Paint by Gene comes out. I have to have a set of hard bags as well - I'd like to know how close Gene can come to matching the Razor Red color - I emailed him with some questions - hopefully I'll hear back soon. I really love the SERK - but most of my riding is touring and the fake leather bags just don't do it - they're even getting scratched up already from opening them due to the lack of a handle. I hate the arrogance of the Motor Company - I guess I can see why they don't want to sell you a can of the custom paint but why the hell wouldn't they sell you a set of custom painted hard bags for some ungodly price?? Oh - speaking of price, what kind of a price did Gene quote you???

Hey strohkr, Gene has done Razor Red SERK's already as well as many other CVO bikes. You should hear back from him, but he's not the fastest Email responder. When these are done, we'll try to get him to join up here and post some pics of his work. I've heard nothing but good things about this guy. So I'm sure they'll look great! After he's done, he'll work up a standard price for Saddle Bags and TourPaks for our CVO's. He's a very reasonable guy and seems to love his work. So stay tuned for the final results. I'll post the pics here!

As for HD, I've given up wondering why they do things the way they do. They seem to be spending more time figuring out how to save 50 cents on each bike and screwing up the aftermarket. I wish they spent that time on QC and Product Development. We might not have to go to the aftermarket if they got their act together!

Thanks for the reply. I just heard from Gene and he says he can match the Razor Red  "perfectly" - so no one would know it wasn't factory. He quoted me somewhere around $800. After I hear from you guys as to the quality of his "match" and if it's good enough for you - I'm going to ship off some hard bags to him for repainting. It'll probably wind up being over the winter - then I have something to look forward to for next year
Unless, of course, the MoCo comes out with some other fantastic looking CVO.....

I spoke with Gene last night about the paint scheme design for the Hard Bags. A few things were discussed.

1. Matching Leaf Flames on the sides of bag, and the Marbling within a Blue PinStriped triangle (point facing rear) on the tops with or without additional blue B.P.S. border all around top of the bag.

2. Flames on side, raised black flames on top (stencilled off the tops of the leather bags) with or without the B.S.P. top perimeter, and B.P.S. triangle (point facing down) bordering marbling,.

3. Flamed sides, raised black flames on top with or without the B.S.P. top perimeter, no marbling.

4. Flames on sides and B.S.P., only in places.

Any other ideas for the bags while we're finalizing things? Or, which idea above sounds better? What do you guys think?

Very nice pipes on your bike. Have always been a fan of the fish tails.  What brand are these?  Just slip ons or are they the whole package.  Did you have to do any other modifications to install?

They are V&H Big shot slip ons and I used a PCIIIR to map it.
