I asked my mechanic about contamination in other parts of the engine.  he explained to me that the oil is picked up by the filter  as it leaves the cam area and the contamination is not a concern.

I have always had good luck with Andrews cams in the past. As far as head work etc.... Child support gets in the way of major performance mods for now. I will be looking at getting with sb charley in a fiew years. Right now I am looking at going back as close to stock as possible but am wanting a cam that would get me more low end torque than the SE253.

If you are not going to any head porting or decking to raise compression..the factor dictating cam choice is the 9.1:1 compression we have on our bikes. Good low end torque is made is made with early intake opening (the stock cam is only 6 degrees before tdc) and an intake close less than 40 degrees.  Several cams will work better than the stock cam. The woods tw5g has good timing numbers and makes gobs of torque even below 3000 rpm. It does have high lift at .575 but will work with the stock springs. The andrews 26g cam will work nice also. A race tuner and dyno time will be required. While they are in there it might be a good idea to put in the Baisley spring to bump the oil pressure.  Please keep us posted on the cam you chose and the outcome . sorry bout the problem but you will be better off in the long run with a more reliable and STRONGER running scoot.

i had same problem at 25000 with tc on fxstd. i went to gear drive but those of you with miles had better consider gears or new shoes. this is a real weak link.

Apparently the cam shoe is not a problem on all bikes. With 34,500 miles on my SERK I had 1/16 inch of wear on the cam shoe.  Nothing like what is in the previous pictures. While the mechanic is in there I am having new ones put on since it is only a $35 dollar part and he is already in there anyway.

I spoke way too soon!!! Just got a call from the dealer, the back tensioner was worn down badly I will try and get a picture. Lifter failed, cams are trashed I'll update later with the complete list.

OK, who's going to start experimenting with different gear-driven cam grinds to let the rest of us know what works best on the 103s so we can get away from this problem?

103tHunDer I will step up to the plate with my choice.  I am going to try the s&s 570g This choice is based on my goal of staying with a cam that would keep me close to stock.  when my mechanic asked me what direction I wanted to go with the repair (ie My low to midrange torque or upper range horsepower)  My answer to him was that I wanted to acheve the low/ midrange TQ but to stay close to the same numbers as the stock cam. I do not want to go with a cam that would require extensive head mods or cause me to change to a lot heavier spring and sacrifice the  extra wear on the valve train at this time. hoping for high milage between rebuilds. Ok so call me a tight ass! My long term goals are to keep the SERK and pick up a Road Glide in the years to come. Then look out.  My main issue is having a dependible bagger untill then. I will follow up with #s when repairs are complete and Dyno Mike has done his magic

I did speak with my Mechanic today and after talking to him I am considering dropping one tooth in the front and adding one in the back to change gear ratio (primary). And also changing the V&H ovels out with a 2 into 1 Pro Pipe or Supertraps. Would like to here some opinions.

RR, I guess I'm the one that led us off-topic, but thanks for the reply.  You're after exactly what I would be, so I eagerly anticipate your results.
