Just for the fun of it, I've been thinking about making a new member and call myself HDServiceRep.

My first post would go something like this:

I'm new to this site. I've heard of CVOHarley.com and I just joined to see what this is all about. I've been a service rep for 15 years. If there's anything I can do to you, just let me know. I'd like to go to one of your gatherings and answer any questions you may have in a family friendly environment. PM me your address and shirt size and I'll send you a free T-Shirt.

Rumor had it, that after much research....HD is coming out with a chromed griddle attachment that can be mounted on the rear jug of the 110's and provide a much needed hot breakfast after only 10 miles?

Kind of reminds me of the peeling chrome issues on the 04 and 05 SEEGs.  While some had experienced it multiple times, many of us had not.  I stayed out of those threads for the longest because I didn't have the experience.  Two years and 20,000k miles into it, I finally did experience it.  The dealership didn't know there was an "issue" with peeling chrome.

I was skeptical of that after reading as much as I'd read here, so I started asking every SEEG owner I'd run into (there are a lot of them here in Nor Cal).  I can tell you that the percentages were low, but you'd not have thought that by all the posts on this board at the time.  Those of you that have been here for awhile will remember it and the amount of related posts in relation to the size of the membership.

This is a flash from the past - but I previously had two 2004 Orange/Black SEEG's.  One had chrome flaking from both wheels and both rider footboards.  The other had no flaking chrome what so ever.  Both were manufactured in the same month...
Warranty took care of the issue with no questions asked, but I remember wondering at the time if there were mutiple suppliers of these components to the MOCO - one of which was not very good at it...

I really do not know where the truth really lies,
and I am new to the site and most do not know who I am and likewise I do not know who most of you are,
(as far as I am concerned we both love to ride,so we have something in common)
but can the lynchings come after a little greater transgression than not acknowledging an issue that they may or may not be aware of?

I am a small business owner that is similar to a HD dealership, but has nothing to do with motorcycles and I have particpated in industry forums that I have given an honest opinion or a result of experience only to be slammed as a company plant or a liar. I do not participate in them anymore because my only motive was to try help and educate people in how things work in my particular industry.
I wanted to help also those in how to navigate problems  if seemed warranted.
This turned to be futile and I genuinely wanted to help.
I have over 35 years as a Dealer and I have a completely different perspective than most customers (remember do not flame me because I have nothing to do with Motorcycles)

none of us here know why C_T_L chose to mfg his account. he may have felt like he was unwelcome, he may have dug a hole he cant get out of, maybe he started asking questions of his GM on our be-half and was instucted to nuke his account or lose his job. i have an 02 and have been very lucky to not have bad paint, peeling chrome ( i do now after 6 years but not right off the line ), or motor troubles. but i think most will agree, when it come to CVO specific parts or issues most dealerships are seriously lacking in knowledge. if i need parts i get th P/N and bring it with me. i had a dealer load the wrong download into my ECM and argue with me about it.... it was through this site i was bale to get a copy of a tech bulliten to shove under their noses...

so yes when some comes here and says they work at a dealer, our guard goes up a bit, but only C_T_L knows why he left

Sorry, but I am not buying it...  I was a member of the forum well over a year before my rear head gasket failed.  I joined the site because I now own my forth CVO and this site is dedicated to the CVO product - not because I had a 110 motor failure.  Most I know on this forum were members prior to their 110 failure.  Sure, I have no doubt that there are members that after having a failure did an internet search and found this site, but I would suggest it is the minority - not the majority of us.  Interesting thought, but I disagree.  If there are dealers who after a year plus are not aware of this issue, it is a sad commentary for the MOCO and the dealerships.  Any level of interest from dealers of their customers issues would cause them to be aware of this issue...

Scott

Same here Scott. I was on the forum before I even got the bike. I didn't come here looking for a solution to an existing problem, but instead to increase my enjoyment. The problem came later.

Hey, maybe membership in the site caused the problem. That's it! The site is the problem. :huepfenlol2:

Nope  - that is not at all what I am saying.  What I am saying is if they don't know about the issue - they should.  If they truly have a deer in the headlights look - then the MOCO has failed their customers and the dealerships have failed their customers.  I am not saying the dealerships are "lying".  I am saying they should know about the issue after well over a year...

I am also saying the forum is not "attracting" members because of 110 motor issues.  The forum has members who bought 110 motors - who then had failures.

hope that clarifies my thoughts...Scott

Scott
On the other side, I believe it was MJZ was the one to say he found a dealership that denied having seen the problem after he knew they had actually fixed at least one. I think I have that correct.

Hell, ya'll know I came on board well before my bike. I was so excited to get the "State-of-the-Art" RK I always wanted. I wasn't doing anything to upset my 2-Yr. W.....ty!!! Well, the motor in my "State-of-the-Art" brand new $32K motorcycle had the biggest POS engine I've seen out of HD in years!!! So, HD has no solution, nor even admits there's a problem. And I say F HD and F the W.....ty! They can keep their W.....ty, and I'll do and say what I want about my bike and the MoCo. I paid my money. We're even. If they or their dealers can't take me asking some tough questions, that's not my problem. Only people with something to hide, or flat out liars, struggle giving you a straight answer. You'll get no sympathy from me on continuing to press for the truth! "But they can't handle the truth!!!" ;)

Yep that is definitely it.

I know that I have looked in the window of the Service department and seen brand new and slightly used SE Ultras sitting in the shop.  This over a little more than a year time frame.  I asked why they were there and was told because of engine problems, overheating. seeping oil.....  I did not go seeking to see SE bikes in the shop, just natural curiosity had me stick my nose on the glass and look at what was on the other side.  No one forced the manager of the shop to tell me what was wrong, but I did ask.  A member here with an Ultra with 110 engine has been told by this manager that they have never heard of a problem.  mmmmm  :nixweiss: Maybe I have a better memory than the manager does.  That makes sense actually, since he sees thousands of bikes and i am very interested in the couple of SE bikes.  I may remember these cases better.

And Neal, you are right.  You built this site out of wanting to talk to others who had a bike like yours, because the HD shops are not all up on our stuff.  I know that a HD service department put too much oil in my forks, because they did not read the difference from my bike and a regular Electra glide.  Now, I know I have to be very specific in what I ask for and not assume anything.  It is OK if you know, sucks to learn the hard way.

Yea, and I was the a$$hole that found your leak. Man was that a happy day for me. :bananarock: :bananarock: I was dancing around, pointing fingers and doing the happy dance. "Howie's got a leak. Howie's got a leak." I chanted and reveled in finding out that I wasn't the only one.

I will say that every single 110" motor that has parked in my garage, four in total, has had the leak multiple times. What does that say about percentages?  :nixweiss:

Oh crap! It's my garage.  :D
