Has anyone had  110 motor (mine is a 2007) knock  very loud and smoke from somewhere under tank or front part of the motor?  Couple weeks ago while in Miami temp in mid 80's parked bike and look around for about an hour, then started bike it began to knock and smoke.   The motor appeared very hot very quickly.  The knock was loud enough for friends riding in front and behind  to hear . Just knew we would never make it to the local dealer.  It did this for 10 to 15 minutes.  Just before we got to the dealer it stopped.   Motor run fine now  but has a little noise in it now that wasn't there before.  Dealer here said it not enough to tear down yet.  We had been in slow traffic before stopping but not like it gets in Daytona at times.  No one else bike had any heat issues.  Just wonder what happened?  I have  Never heard any motor knock any louder without coming apart.  Then for the sound just to stop.   Strange!!   Change oil when got home no metal in it but look burned.(Just  1200 miles on oil change)  Any ideas would be welcome.  Local dealer  talked about placing it on  the dyno to warm it up to try to make it show again.  May try that if riding doesn't do it.

If you're still under warranty and the dealer won't do anything, ride the beotch until she blows! Then go to the dealer and say "See!!! I told you,,,, you dumb a$$."

This is when you tell the dealer to put it in writing that of his own accord he's choosing not to execute warranty service.  When he asks why you tell him so that if it locks up, wrecks and injures or kills you the liability is his.

Changing the oil without taking an oil sample and sending to the lab was a mistake perhaps. In order to verify and ensure warranty will be done in the future. Visable signs of metal are well less than appropriate. Run the bike a couple hundred miles and take a sample, then sample it every oil change or periodically so you have a base line of elements in the oil. Hard to argue with proof from a oil sample test. Good luck

Mine did the same thing on a ride to Nashville this past summer. The oil pressure got so low the hydraulic cam tensioner let the chain jump around causing one hell of a knock. Got her to the shop and the mechanic said you must be running the syn3 huh? He told me in the heat in the south 90+the syn3 would break down and the engine would lose oil pressure. He changed the oil back to HD straight 50 weight,we put on another 2800miles on the trip thru the Smokeys without any other problems. That was on my 07 jester@ 7000 miles. It has since been replaced with the 08 canyon & silver. No problems with this one yet knock on wood with 3100 miles.

I had something like that with an AMC Spirit.  I would have been stuck in Biddeford Maine on a Sunday, so I thought I see if I could get home.  By 8-10 miles the knocking almost went away.  By the time I got to the dealer Monday it was barely audible if you listened for it.  The dealer said a piece of debris must have lodged in the hydraulic lifter making one heck of a loud knocking noise.  I kept the car 9 more years and never had any engine trouble.  Harleys have hydraulic lifters, I would imagine the same thing might happen to them.  At least we can hope that is all that it was!

I had the same happen to me with a CUSE2 in traffic.
Ended up with a replacement engine. The SM couldn't fine anything wrong with the engine until I requested a crankshaft runout on my dollar. It was so far out, that the techs were scratching their heads. The question was, " How did he ride this in? Warranty covered the replacement engine.

I was riding with Vagabond when his bike went on shut down....

I had an '07 SEUC and the 110 blew a rear head gasket and the inner cylinder liner separated from the cylinder.  Was running Rhineherts and a Screaming Eagle Race Tuner.....HD rebuilt the rear cylinder....

I decided to trade the bike for an '08 SEUC, only have 350 miles on it so far...no problems yet.  The rear cylinder problem was a good reason to trade for an '08!!!!!!

I have an '08 sitting in the garage waiting for spring & am not concerned. I'll ride the chit out of it & if it breaks, they can fix it!

+1. Mine leaks. Been to the dealer 3 times. I've got 17K on it, love the bike and going to ride it hard as I can and let the extended warranty pay for itself and not worry about it.

Hi Frank,

I took a different tack with my Harley.  I bought it new in 2003, the 100th year edition, Electra Glide Classic.  But, mine is paid for and I really wanted to venture into the CVO models.  I thought of trading it in but found I would end up loosing 45% of what I had in it.  That was too big a bite for me.  I then thought, well, I just buy another one!  You can never have too many Harley’s so I’ve been told.  Then I found and read all the stuff on this site you have read about the newer 110ci.  That scared me off, for now anyway.  I’ll keep watching and buy one eventually.  In the mean time, I decided to “Custom Build” my Electra Glide.  I was going to have the 88ci built to the 110ci, but found the build kits used the same parts as the factory models.  Long story short, I built mine into the SE103.  I sat down with the service department and custom built this SE103 to suit my riding.  I got it back a few days ago and I’m VERY happy with my decision.

Why do you have to 'put your two cents in'... but it's only a 'penny for your thoughts'?
Where's that extra penny going?

I just put a deposit on a 2008 Screamin' Eagle Road King, Black Diamond/Silver Dust. I did not do any
research on the bike prior to deposit, I am glad i didn't, because i would not have bought it then. Life is
to short come to find out. Just realized that when my friends wife died in her early 40's. So I figure live it
to the fullest. I hope you all do the same.
