Hello...I just put money down on an 09 ultra CVO, trading in my 06 street glide which was my first HD and i have some questions that i hope can answered.
Has anybody had any issue? My previous HD had injector issues for the first few months.
Does the ultra come standard with the XM and NAV? if so is the XM activated or i do have to pay for the service?
What are you averaging for mileage?
How comfy is the seat and is the heating feature worth it?
How much better do the new 09 touring models handle vs my 06 or previous years?
Issues: Heated seat stopped working, but I haven't seen anyone else reporting this problem on here. NAV system won't acquire the satellites. Common problem and you won't know until you try to set it up and try to use it. The NAV system is not what anyone would call state of the art. It looks like most will tell you that if you really want a good NAV system, forget the one on the bike and get a Garmin Zumo 550.
XM radio is not activated. You have to activate it, and I didn't notice what part of the country you are in, but if you are up north like I am, wait until you know you are ready to ride regularly before activating, to get some actual use during your trial period and make sure it's something you want to keep and pay for. I have no idea, as I haven't activated mine yet...probably beginning of next month I will activate mine to try it out.
Mileage: I haven't been watching it closely yet since it was in the break-in period and in the shop now for dynotune. I'll know shortly what kind of mileage I can expect. Of course, that will still be controlled a lot by the way you twist that throttle.
The seat is good. You may need to do some adjusting on the rider backrest to get the right position for you. Once you figure you need adjustment, there are at least 4 ways to adjust it, with one of them you will likely only figure by asking again on this forum. It's not a standard adjustment and I can always point you in the right direction once you tell what the problem is. The heated seat is nice and I missed it immediately when mine stopped working. It's not a problem that I am concerned about. They are getting me a new seat. No big deal. It keeps some warm blood flowing through the bod. If you are planning on doing some real cold weather riding, grab a heated jacket and heated gloves. You won't believe that you can ride in 0 degrees and have to turn your temp setting down.
Handling: Superb! I traded an 07 Road King Classic on mine and this new bike is much more nimble. They don't feel like a 900 lb bike on the road.
Other important items for the new owner: Your stock exhaust pipes have a chamber where the 2 pipes meet and before they separate back into 2 pipes again. Inside that area is a catalytic converter. Your options are leave them in and keep the pipes restricted, remove the Cat yourself, send your pipes to Fullsac mufflers and they will remove them for $100, replace the head pipes with those from a 96" non-California motor (the 96" pipes don't have Cats except in CA), or replace the head pipes with aftermarkets. As far as mufllers go, Fullsac offers new muffler cores for the stock mufflers that give a nice low rumble, but not obnoxiously loud or go aftermarket. You will an incredible number of people on here that will endorse the Fullsac mufflers. Personally, I just removed mine today, but not because I didn't like them. I just made a decision to go with a 2 into 1 complete system on mine. Along with the pipes, you will want to open up the intake with a better air filter. One other thing on this topic, if you get the Fullsac muffler cores and remove the Cats yourself, you will end up spending less than $200 and have a very nice exhaust system.
Overall, I don't think you will ever doubt why you bought this bike after you've put a few miles on it. Remember that when you read through forum posts, there's always going to be more conversation about things that go wrong than things that work properly. It would get pretty boring if people just came on to say that they went for a ride and their brakes work or their bike started with the first push of the button. A lot of people get terrified when they see posts about problems. They do happen, these bikes are human built, and you have a warranty if something should go wrong. When nothing goes wrong, don't be disappointed...you've got tons of people on here that will help you find ways to spend money on your new ride that you never had any idea that you needed.
Congrats on the new bike and welcome to the forum from Pittsburgh...the place with the football team.
