Well, why didn't you?
You, at a loss for words?
I don’t mean to speak for Hoist, he seems to be able to handle that OK.

I couldn’t help but notice that Hoist speaks a New York dialect that is very difficult to understand without being able to observe his body language; mostly hand and finger gestures n’ stuff. When you factor in the Ethernet effect you really have to pay attention. Once you get it figured out, he makes perfect sense.

So djkak, IYHO, would you rather own a 2006 Harley or a 2007?
The more I read about the motor changes made by Harley for year model 2007 forward the more I think a 2006 model year and earlier is a better choice.
Am I wrong?

IMHO, I believe the 2007 is hands down a better machine. The changes to the cam chest area alone make this an easy choice. The 6-speed + elimination of the starter jackshaft is a no brainer. I like the integration of the oil passages into the crankcase and transmission housing. Realizing there have been some growing pains with the IDS, I believe that a component like this is absolutely critical for any high performance street application, as is a high capacity motor sprocket. If I landed on a 2007 Twin Cam, I would run both the IDS and the big sprocket. If I had to do one before the other, I would choose the sprocket first.
My sense is that the increasing flywheel shift issues beginning in ‘07 are the result of drivetrain changes coupled with higher engine output which was not met with adequate torsional dampening of the drivetrain.
I understand the new high output XR1200 runs a spring dampened clutch to reduce torsional loads. The V-Rod uses clutch and rear sprocket dampening and the 1125 Buell uses clutch and trans drive sprocket dampening.
Twin Cam’s built prior to ’07 are not at all immune to flywheel shift. This is especially true of modified, higher output machines like a 2006 dragonfly green 1550 Road King. Your options may also be limited if you wish to reduce the high torsional loads that the crank and drivetrain of modified machine like this are subjected to. jmho
