it was more or less an accident

I've been riding black Road Kings for years and was perfectly happy with it. But the last one (mod. 05) used up 3 103 cui engines, the first 2 still under warranty, they lasted only 15.000 m each. So last winter we decided to get rid of the bike, after test-riding the 09-model we wanted the new frame too. But knowing the company, we planned to wait for the 10-models and did not intend to buy one of the first bikes with the new frame. January 2010 seemed a good time for a new Road King.
It wasn't meant to happen. In July the bike broke down again fatally.

So we needed a new bike really fast

No black Road King was availiable on short notice, SE 110 engine on backorder, no way to build a new King before August or even September. But our dealer had a FLHTCUSE4 since February, nobody wanted the bike in silver/blue. He offered to sell the bike for a good price and take it back next year if we still wanted a new Road King.
That's how I got the FLHTCUSE4 and as time passed by we decided to keep the bike. It's definitely not black enough but you get used to some little shortcomings

Madame loves the spacious luggage-compartments, the fairing and all those little gimmicks - and I get used to the old man's way of riding

With some little mods done I actually start liking the heavy bagger.

I may add a Fat Bob next year for the short ride solo.
