Retsubldo - Any problems swapping the chrom trim from your stock CUSE to the new pad?  If I can skip buying that trim piece that saves me $50.   Thoughts?

Thanks again... terrific layout.
Yes, just swap the chrome piece!

I ordered all the parts from Lakeside HD few weeks ago when they had the free shipping.  Got everything but one screw (1106) and the dash pad (11100009), these are on b/o, supposed to have 30/Sept.

Does anyone know if the crimson black 2010 cvo which was the bike that originally came with this special zumo fairing mount uses the aux front radio jack like is explained on this install or did it come with direct wiring behind the fairing. Your help is much appreciated. thank you

it plugs into the front of the radio. an additional "plug" was added to the front of the faring and a patch cable used

How ridiculous is that patch cord?!? A $40k motorcycle with a patch cord strung across the dash jumping the GPS to the audio system.  Brings visions of telephone operators from the 20’s and 30’s.  As an engineer I would be embarrassed to even have suggested such an idea as that.

Just got all my parts yesterday to install the Garmin 660 onto the leather dash pad. This post is great and the pictures really make it look fairly straight forward. I do have one question about the cable holes, it looks like one is on the top of the curve that the dash pad follows. Is this correct? And how did you know exactly where to drill and what size?  I don't have any tech data that would show that, if you have a reference, please let me know.

I also got the new GPS interface module that eliminates the "patch cord" and allows you to hear GPS audio no matter what you have selected on your radio. Should make a huge difference.

Thanks again for such a nice post and I look forward to any advice you can give on this one.

Frain... are you talking about the NIM Navigation Interface Module? Just curious and making sure that I have the correct stuff. Thanks.

Brian,

I just eyeballed it and made sure the holes I drilled would be covered by the dash pad and not interfere with the holes needed for the garmin mount.  Remember you still need the audio cord that connects to the radio if you want to hear audio from the Garmin, other than the turn directions.

Thanks Eric, appreciate it.

I am installing the new NAV Interface Unit that allows you to hear audio from the GPS no matter what audio input you are listening to so you don't connect to the Aux jack.

Thanks again for a great post!

The Navigation Interface Module (NIM) is a new product from HD.  The purpose is to allow you to listen to any audio input from your radio and when the GPS unit "speaks" it will quiet the radio and play the GPS audio through the speakers or headsets.

I have XM in my radio but there are instructions if you will be using the XM in the GPS as to how to configure it. All this is mounted inside the fairing for a nice clean install.

One other thing to consider is that I sent my radio off to IRON CROSS audio and they put an additional AUX port on the back of my radio for just such an instance. They also installed a nice iPOD connector with about 50 inches of cable to route to my iPod mount (chrome Rider's Claw). This connector takes the uncompressed audio out of the iPod for a better sound and also charges the iPod while riding. I got them to change the screen color to a blueish white, much better than the red, they can do Orange, Green, and Blue too. While they had it, they brought it up to date with the latest mods and did some additional waterproofing to it too. Great bunch of guys to work with, and fast!

Hope this helps!

I wonder if putting some of the clear heavy duty tape on the inner fairing right behind the Garmin mount would help from wearing into the paint.  Just in case you want to convert the dash pad back for selling?

Just wanted to mention that all the new CVO's coming out with the GPS have this clear piece of tape you are mentioning and it is available in the parts catalog. They have apparently come to the same conclusion you have that the GPS bracket will ultimately rub the paint because of the tight fitment.
