The guys at Revolution Performance will be leaving for Sturgis on Tuesday.

Won't be surprised if the 10-12 units are not available then

Just a quick note on the linking of the ECM for the security system of the bike......I have the 08A ECM (which I got from RevPerf) in my 2011 SESG and all security features are working. I sent them my '11 ECM and they got whatever info they needed to make the replacement "older style" ECM function perfectly with all the features on the bike. Then they sent both units back to me--the stock '11 ECM untouched and the 08a ECM ready to install and work with the EMS.

That's good to know Mike.  Thanks.  Had read slight variations of how they handled the security system functions.  Hearing it directly from someone that has had it done is always a benefit.

Not to further confuse this but how did you test it? If the ECM is in bypass your security system still works like normal but if one was to turn the switch on and run switch on, then jump the starter the bike will run and ride off with or with out the key fob.

The 2011 I installed one of their kits on presented with normal function after using an alternative ECM also.  Without more thorough vetting would feel sanguine with the results based on the mftr saying so and trusting them with their product and services.  Just as would trust you with yours.

I am all for believing that the system still fully functions. If you did not know how to test it, no one can tell if the ECM is in bypass or not.

The bypass mode has been used for ages at HD and that led to some bikes growing feet. When I worked with them is when I found that a quick and simple jumper wire would get around the system if it had been bypassed in the ECM, so it is a concern when ECM's are being exchanged. This is just why the linking process takes 10 minutes at a dealer and 30 minutes if you do not have DT to do it with. It doesn't need to take that long at all but the long delay is written in the software to keep bikes from being taken quickly by simply plugging in a different ECM. If you do not have the HD security system then this does not matter.

If you would like to check all you need is a short jumper wire. Unlock the Ign. but take the key fob about 10' away from the bike. Turn the Ign. on and the run switch on then jump the starter from the battery post on the starter to the solenoid terminal, these are about 5" apart on the starter. If the bike fires up and continues to run the ECM is in bypass, if it starts and stalls it is not. Take this as nothing more than a CYA as that is all it is meant to be.

I have tried to start the bike without the key fob and it didn't even crank..the alarm went off when I hit the start button. I would think that would show that it is working.

That is the TSSM part of the security system not the ECM part. Since the TSSM is not being changed out that is going to work regardless of what ECM is in the bike. The ECM controls the running of the engine and the procedure I talked about above shows how to test it if you want too.

I may give it a try when I get a chance

***Update---I just went to the garage and turned the ign switch to run and jumped the starter and the bike started and ran--alarm sounding--but it ran. I let it run about 10 seconds--is that enough? Does this mean the ECM is not fully linked with the bike??  Couldn't Rev Perf have linked the new ECM since they requested I send them the old one so they could get info from it??

That means your ECM is in bypass mode and not linked at all to your TSSM. It can be installed in any like model and start the bike up and drive it away. HD uses this mode to simplify development work but it is not intended to be used in production bikes this way. So this means the engine run portion of your security system is disabled.

I do not want to say what Rev can and cannot do but linking to the TSSM on your bike is a major part of the security system. As I said before I only brought this up as a CYA. I would recommend you contact Rev about it.

There is a manual pairing process to mate an ECM and a TSSM.  It's a pain in the ass and after having done it once I swore I'd never do it again.  Whether that would get the ECM out of this bypass mode, however, is another question to be answered.

MJ, when you find something out let us know.  It's possible Travis's bike here has the same thing going on.  Something else for them to figure out and get going as the 2011 code finally gets cracked.

FYI The ECM will stay in bypass mode until it is reprogrammed and turn back on in the code.

Would someone that did not have to change their ECM try the above test. Just wondering if all the EMS programed ECM's are set to Bypass Mode?
