After way too much time wasted thinking about this, I'm with Rjob - the spun aluminum POS went back to the dealer.  I knew I'd be pissed everytime I looked at it.  I pointed out the f*#k up to the parts manager who didn't believe me at first.  We walked over to a SEUC on the showroom floor and I pointed out the difference.  He didn't say a word, just shook his head and gave me my money back.  PJ

I ordered one of these friggin things after reading the thread. Now they are all going back? I myself would rather look at the mis-matched guage than the Air guage. BTW the missing pins are not a design flaw it is part of the feature package. The guage is designed to be dual purpose. It starts out reading Air Temp then auto modes over to Oil Temp. You just have to read the Air Temp real quick. The different needle is a secret feature yet to be discovered. I sure hope I don't have to be the Beta tester. ;D

Ever noticed how HARD it si to actuallyu complain to the Moco? Other than calling that stupid customer service line...

How come there isn't an email address where we can vent?  I have several questions that might be easily answered that there is no easy way to communicate...Every other customer service aware has a link where you can get an answer but not our moco.

Whatever... I was going to order that stupid gauge...now I will wait.....Thanks again guys... :-?

FYI, the spun aluminum oil temp gauge is now on "national backorder" according to my dealer.  Perhaps word of the f-up has reached Juneau Ave.  Man, maybe I should have kept the gauge instead of getting a refund...if they stop production of the f-up version, it'll be like a limited edition.  Kinda' like the Red '02 SE Road Kings...or the Road House pin for Mexico City in 2003 (pins were made, but the event was cancelled). Guess I just blew my chance - PJ

I'm keeping mine, Its very close, better than the MC guage and much more functional then the air temp.

Now all we have to do is figure out where to put the sending unit so we don't lose the chrom line cover... >:(

That was easy.  Getting a gauge to match has been the hard part.

Took the plug identified in Drain Pan for dummies and drilled and threaded it to accept the sending unit. Simple, clean install. The only exposure was talked about somewhere in this thread about road debris breaking the wire to the sending unit. Didn't lose any bling and didn't have to buy anything additional.
Now we'll see how the gauge performs. I think I'll borrow a digital dipstick to compare the two readings....

h20-man,

Cover the exposed portion of the wire with plastic wiring conduit, available at most auto parts places, and tie strap it.

With no center to grip by the allen wrench how'd you get the plug tight now?  And, if tight, how would it ever be removed if necessary?  Seems like a lot of hassle to avoid buying a dollar and a half piece of brass?
