My thinking also.  Just wish they had done it on the '06 models.

They already did the Street Glide as a CVO model - it was the first Electra Glide CVO's (no tour pack) - just look at them...

You are exactly right, and they sold so well a light bulb went off at the MoCo and they decided they needed a model to keep the sales momentum going. Hence the FLHX - Street Glide was born.

Hi All,

Here are some facts:
No FLST (Thank God)
No FXSTS (???)
No FXD35 (duh! 36th?)
No FLSTFSE (2 years time to change)
No Carbs on Big-Twins (new EPA standards in '07)
FL CVO will be another Ultra (small changes, think 2004 to 2005 SEEG)

Rumors yesterday...Heritage Softail as a CVO in 07. Secondly CVO group to be dissolved. Everything going custom order instead. That makes our CVO's that are factory made priceless.

Since the CVO bikes actually belong to P&A rather than vehicle production that means two branches would start screaming; P&A and the dealers.  I like the idea of being able to cherry pick what I want and have the bike just come in that way.  But, should it actually happen, the dealers will be screaming.  While it wouldn't be a huge adjustment for them their assembly lines will take a bit of jiggering to make that happen too.

Custom order would be great and I think it should be an option from a customer standpoint but I could see dealers and to some extent the MOCO complaining about lost revenue from lack of parts sales after the sale and of course look at the huge loss from labor on the installs. ;D

I could believe custom order "packages", like the auto companies, but not a true custom order where you get to specify each individual item (let's see, I'd like this set of controls, that set of wheels, this paint job, the 103 motor in black, etc.).  True custom is not feasible on a production line, and the logistics involved in getting the correct assortment of parts together at the right time would be a nightmare.

From the stock market side, I just got this report on HDI from PiperJaffray dated 6-14-06

"the key risk to our thesis would be the introduction of a 95-cubic inch engine for the 07 model year"

"the introductio of a significant new techology such as a twin-cam 95 cubic inch engine could materially improve sales of new H-D motorcycles"

For what it worth.......

It's amazing what some folks consider to be "significant new technology".  Since when is throwing existing jugs and pistons on an engine to increase displacement by 7 cubic inches "new", "significant", or even "technology"????  That's old tech in my book.

The reason I didn't give the 95 inch rumors much credence in the past had to do with the huge amount of money H-D would have lost on the P&A side of the business.  They sell large numbers of the 95 inch kits, and if they make it standard they just have to come up with a new way to bang us for additional cash to make up the shortfall in revenues.

I agree that labeling the 95 inch parts as new technology is a stretch but t wouldn't surprise me to see HD make that the standard displacement and then brag about it.  It sure would be an easy thing to do across the line to distinguish them as new bikes.

About making up revenue, how much do dealers charge to swap out 88's for 95's (don't know--I'm asking)?  How would they like to make that same amount or near it through new bike sales by just having that figure added to the MSRP?  And HD could eliminate some part numbers from it's inventory over time (88 inch stuff) thereby saving manufacturing and inventory costs.

I bet dealers would rather sell bikes than perform any service.  And if 95 was the new standard, dealers could then market 103 upgrades the way they do 95's now.  More profit on parts due to (inevitably) higher prices for 103 stuff over 95.

And I wonder how many present HD owners would trade in their bikes for new ones if they came stock with 95 inches?  I bet HD knows.  This could be a reason for many HD owners to come back to the showroom--to get them over the attitude of "why buy new, the EPA won't let me touch them, anyway and I want more power".  At the very least this upgrade would be a definite upgrade (reason to buy) to a whole lot of 88 owners, and even more incentive to us Evo dinosaurs. :)

Who knows what will happen but I can see some credence to the 95 inch base motor theory.
