Getting back to ultrafxr's question, I live in the socialist republic of Illinois, and have been working hard to lobby for our recent attempt at CCW which failed. Now Illinois is the last state in the entire country that denies it's citizens any type of CCW right. We are now fighting this in the courts, and are making slow but sure progress but these gun-grabbing liberals are not giving up easily. In fact, even after the courts are now awarding the gun-rights plaintiffs attorney fees and costs, they still are fighting and pissing away tax payers money, which proves they are going to fight to the bitter end.
That said, I very highly recommend that when visiting ANY state that does not recognize your out of state CCW, immediately disarm, and store the weapon legally. I have my Utah CCW permit, and will carry in those states that recognize my permit, but before I enter a state that does not, I pull over, remove my clip, and everything goes in a small locked box in the tourpak.
For years I used to keep a 45 in the car, hidden of course, but now that we can see the light at the end of the tunnel, I'm not risking a felony UUW which would then prevent me from ever owning a gun again. If they'd do that to one of their own otherwise law abiding citizens, you better believe that if an out of stater is caught in Illinois packing, it's going to be a very bad day for them. I recommend that you don't even think about it as they do not mess around - you will go straight to jail and it's gonna cost you dearly, fwiw.
