My letter says that it is for 2005 FLHTCSE2 models produced before April 18, 2005.
That's because they changed to the LED version in production on 4/18/05.  All of the "yellows" I saw at dealers that year already had the new light installed.

It's too bad they didn't just fix the lousy gravity switch on the old light.  It put out more light, and I liked having it turn on automatically.  To bad it forgot to turn off automatically.

Just received a call from the friendly service manager..... seems the first step for technician is to "tap" the bulb housing.  If the light flickers; you get a new light..if no flicker; the recall doesnt apply....  so, he asked if i wouldn't mind playing the "home version" and tapping on the b*&ch and see what happens

HUH :-/ :-?

Christ I could be a service tech.....
"OK FLASH UPDATE"
Brought the bike in today, and I was the lucky first chance they had to excel on this one...
it worked out OK,, and the new light is kinda cool, and potentially more useful...
so.. DONE [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Well, my LED light was on back-order. I finally got the call last week that it was in. I had it changed out today. It is a touch light and there is a couple of other pigtails in the harness as mentioned earlier.

When my husband saw that some times my light did not go off, he removed it.  Now I have no light to go back to the shop with, and say can you replace it. Do you think they might swap it with out it being attached to the bike?  [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

That's exactly what I did Candy

I told the dealer I was fed up with the darned thing staying on - so I took it out of there and presented it loose - for replacement as per the service sheet

They disputed there was a recall - but replaced it (with the lovely LED item) anyway

Bear in mind there aren't too many CVO bikes in UK and I guess they have me figured for a high roller who is gonna spend mucho denario in their store (Wrong - oh so wrong...)

I am also having a replacement rear shock - leaking oil

and a new horn - gone croaky

I already had replaced

2 wheels (F & R) - flaking chrome

a rear brake master cylinder - leaking brake fluid

4 new footboards - flaking chrome

a new transmission housing!!!! - Original broke at the swing arm pivot housing  [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

rear brake arm - flaking chrome

but they won't warranty the LHS stealth hand grip  [smiley=nixweiss.gif] - chrome(?) is through to the copper but the RHS grip is OK and this is at 15,000 miles

The derby cover - flaking paint - got a repaint - OK, I guess

Out of warranty now and I already have an independant mech lined up for the next service and he will fit the gear drive 575's and the new oil pump etc

Also will go to the replacement fork springs - Progressive probably - with emulators to match the 12" 440's on the back - they are great - just fitted on Sunday but love them already

I got them for $365 on eBay (plus shipping) - what a bargain [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Oh yeah, the last thing, and this really shook me

I changed from V&H ovals to S&S stainless BIG ovals (ugly but quiet) and asked the dealer - this is the biggest dealer in Europe I believe - to do a dyno run and tune and set up the PClll to the new mufflers

I asked them to tune for economy - the bike is plenty quick enough but it hurts my wallet each time I stop for fuel - typically $25 per fill up - so tune for economy please.

Ha!

I asked to see the AFR on the dyno printout - "Oh, we can't do that"

WHAT??

"It's an old dyno and doesn't have a linked sniffer" they said - looking somewhat sheepish

"How the heck can you tune the bike then?" - I asked

"Well we do it by experience... and successive runs with small adjustments each time"

Yeah - Right

Needless to say - I didn't pay for the "dyno tune" and I'l be off to another independant tuner next week

It's no wonder several of the Brit HD Dealerships are going under or changing hands just recently

They just haven't got a clue

Got the bike home and had to tighten both forward (crash-bar mounted) footpegs - why were they loose - there was nothing to do near them??

Ah well - dealer relationship is over now - it's time to move on with guys I know and trust (who won't rip me off quite so much either)

Cheers

Dave

I have a pre April produced SEEG so I qualify for the recall.  However I do not think I will replace it. And yes my battery went dead because the light did not turn off.  But it only happens once.  Now I simply check it each time....no big deal.  I like the auto turn on aspect of it.  I can always buy a touch lite at Home Depot if I want one.   [smiley=cherry.gif]

Just received a recall letter today to have the Tour-Pak light replaced. They say "The replacement light will prevent the possibility of the light bulb staying on when the lid is closed, possibly resulting in battery drain."

My bike was delivered in October 2004. I had the first battery drain because of the tour pak light in May 2005. I was luckily parked across from the H-D service tent at the European HOG Rally in St. Tropez. They gave me a new battery for free and told me about the problem with the light not shutting off. Back at my dealer I got the light replaced by the newer LED version in June 2005. No charge.

It seems rather strange that almost two years should pass, before there is an official recall, when the techs new that already in early 2005.

To my knowledge it's not a recall. It's a "if the customer has problems, replace it w/ this one" thing (Can't remember the real name for it - product update or some such). Anyway, if they check the computer it will come back. I've not seen a letter on a "recall". My dealer did replace mine under the "update" thing w/ no questions. Had to wait a week or so for it to come in. Light must be in high demand.

I rarely have my tour pack on and I never thought about it but since it is available I went by my dealer yesterday and asked. He typed in a couple of strokes on his computer, then called the service dept., went into the back and came out with the light kit, put it in a bag and asked if I needed anything else. That was it, came home and threw it in my ever expanding HD parts storeroom closet. Even if I didn't need it, for free I had to have it. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Cool.

If I didn't  belong here I wonder if I'd had even known about it?

Thanks all.

I know I wouldn't have!  On the first try, the dealer installed exactly the same light as the original, when that one failed too, they finally but the LED replacement on.

Thanks JR - I'm going to chase them on this

As it happens the warranty manager(?) for the region was in the dealership when my bike was in there and it was towards the end of the month - maybe he had met/exceeded his target/whatever and I nee to try again at the start of the reporting period

I'm back there on Saturday so I'll see what they say then

Cheers
