Same part number...odd that none of the SEEG's have had the problem....makes you wonder if the MOCO went to a different "low bidder" for the '06 model year oil cooler hoses [smiley=nervous.gif], who uses a cheaper material...I don't think that would surprise anyone here... [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

I've been in a couple of places in the last two weekends where if this had happened, I would have been f'd...no cell phone service, tiny two lane roads where you don't see a car in 30 minutes of riding....BFE in other words.  Getting to the bottom of this one will be critical for my piece of mind....

Terry...you know... now I remember that this guy from the stealer said something that he is going to replace that hose for one that is better  [smiley=nixweiss.gif]....he is off today an tomorrow but Friday when I pick up the bike I will ask him about this comment and ask for the bad hose........take a pic and post here.....

Yeah...I used to have to keep a shallow sheet metal pan with kitty litter in it to catch the oil drips from my old panhead, but even it wouldn't puke it out all at once...

Got some good heads looking at this problem now though, so it'll get resolved.   [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

After reading this post I decided I'd better take a look at my oil line with 5775 miles on. And the wear mark on the line was very clear. I could see the layer rings in the line. to stop the erosion of the oil line I cut a peice of 3/8 fuel line and then split it for a makeshift wear pad of sorts until I can get a new line. I think this fix is as simple as making sure the line is not rubbing the frame when it is tightened into place. I'll find out when I swap it out. What do the dealers say about preventing this from happening?

Jorge....did you ever find out where your hose split?  Just curious, as I am going to order a new set and do something about the one that's on the bike now.

I'm either going to take the hoses I order to a place here in town and have them encased in braided stainless, or see what other kind of permanent solution I can come up with.

Just my CUSE back from the squealer tonight.....talked directly with the mechanic and he said it appeared to him that the factory over "crimped" the connector on the hose which then mates up with the cooler.  He said there were two subtle "cuts" above and below the crimp which gave way under the stress of the oil heat and pressure and then ruptured.  I am going to call first thing in the AM and see if I can swing by there after work to shoot some dig photos to post on here.  He told me he was sending the hose back to MoCo?  I picked her up and rode her over 100 miles both  city and freeway--so far the engine seems to be undamaged.  Like all of you have said, "thank God I was not on HWY 50 or in BFE, or doing 70-80 on the freeway" when she decided to blow.  Keep on ridin'  Hope to see you all at the Sturgis Rally

Agreed, that doesn't look like a clamping issue to me.  That looks like a hose that was (or got) too brittle or didn't have proper strength cord to begin with and just blew at the weak point.

Looks like it could be a combination of excessive clamp pressure starting a cut or tear, and a weak hose just splitting.  In photo #3 there appears to be 2 cuts along the edge of the clamp line, and on both ends the split starts at the edge of the clamp line.  This particular failure seems to have nothing to do with the rubbing against the frame that we were all worried about (but I'm still keeping an eye on that anyway).  If this is what happens at the stock 30-35 psi, I would recommend that the folks with the Fueling pump and modified bypass valve running 45+ psi take a good hard look and perhaps upgrade the hose.

Hey Jerry, I'm wondering if it might me worthwhile for peace of mind and to keep from being 'stranded' late some night to go ahead and 'upgrade' whether you're running increased pressure or not?  Could be the stock hoses just aren't up to the high temps.  :-/ spyder

I wonder how much oil one would lose by removing just the hoses without completely draining the system?  I'm thinking the hoses are just weak, as in not enough cord reinforcement in the material, and perhaps not appropriately temp rated.  Makes you wonder if they changed vendors in '06 since the problem seems to be only with that model year and not prior. Might be easier to pay the 20 bucks for a pair of hoses, take them to a local hose/belt company who makes stuff for hydraulic applications...used to deal with some of those companies back in my tool belt days...and get them to make a couple of formed hoses from a higher quality material.  A side benefit might be that they might have a better hose, but thinner material so the rubbing on the frame would not be an issue.  Might even be a way to cover them in braided stainless, then spray them with clearcoat to keep the braiding from getting funky over time.  Think I'll make a couple of calls today...

Just checked with my local dealer and the 62899-03A hose kit is on backorder until the 31st. Wonder if they are making a change to the hoses or are there that many going bad? Mine seem to be OK but thought I would have a spare set just in case.....
