I think we will be waiting on Harmon Kardon to upgrade the firmware for the head unit.  Can't imagine MoCo gives a rat's ass, or Apple either - they will both be pointing in unison towards Harmon Kardon.

HK will only do what the MoCo pays them to do though, and experience tells us they take a L-O-N-G time about it.  When the HK units came out the UK (probably all European in fact) CB just could not communicate with the pre-HK (i.e. Radiosound) units at all.  It took about a year to fix that, and by fix I mean that while they can communicate now, the Radiosound CB is much better than the HK; over 50-60mph, it's a real struggle to make out what someone is saying on the HK units.  Rented US Ultras a couple of years back, and couldn't believe how good and clear they sound compared to the UK (FM) ones, when FM is supposed to be so much better than AM.

Is anyone having this problem with the aftermarket unit HDPDPLUS, or is it just a problem with the unit from Harley D.

More accurately ... what H-D tells them to do.
I think H/K is powerless to fix the problem until H-D gives them the go-ahead - meaning that H-D must acknowledge that there really IS a problem.
Good luck with that happening.

I have the same operational issues as described previously. Hopefully this can be addressed in firmware and an upgrade available soon. I like having the iPod, but can't rely on it for tunes.

HD buys enough of their equipment - it should simply be a call to them saying that we could install another vendors piece of equipment unless you clean it up.  That would be real easy for both parties to address.  I am sure there would be plenty of manufacturers that would love to equip HD bikes with their equipment, and it wouldn't be hard to increase the quality.

I realize there are a lot of other electronics that interface with each other on the bike - but it would only take about 12-18 months for any company to fully re-engineer a different system - and MoCo probably could increase their profit margins.

I think we should install the TIF2 system as standard equipment!!!!!

I snipped your post here because it's a fine line that needs distinction. H-D commissioned H/K to build their head unit. They didn't buy it "off the shelf". It's a fully engineered product based on H-D specs. Since H-D designed the exact .. and I mean EXACT specs for the H/U - only H-D can commission a change. Do they have significant pull with Harmon? - Probably.

I'll maintain that Harmon can only act on a fix if given the approval from H-D.

I realize there are a lot of other electronics that interface with each other on the bike - but it would only take about 12-18 months for any company to fully re-engineer a different system - and MoCo probably could increase their profit margins.

Agreed ... but - it would have to be engineered based on H-D specs. The "third-party" is not the one on the hook to support, integrate, and fix issues. H-D is. Going to a different vendor simply is not an option for H-D at this point. Conversely - the H/K system is one of the best I've ever seen for future enhancement, functionality, and integration into the bike. Harley needs to take the neccessary actions to fix this problem - Harmon needs to be "at the helm" to write the code. It's Harley's issue ... not H/K's

I think we should install the TIF2 system as standard equipment!!!!!

Thanks!! - could you imagine ME designing the next CVO audio system?
It might actually sound "CVO Worthy" - :)

We would have to add a second charging system, figure out how to mount the 12 channel surround sound (we need some speakers between the fairing and the lids), and where the hell to put the second battery for those great bass thumping toons that drain that battery, and while we are at it, a 2nd pigtail for that battery to charge her up nice!

In all seriousness - HD may have the call, but a proactive company would be all over it to protect their reputation.  There has been enough documented info between different forums to supply the data - it's up to the big boys now to fix it.  Till then, cycle through until it works again.  Turning off the radio before shutting down, and turning it back on didn't make a bit of difference in the last 10 times I been on the bike.  7 unsynch's is more than an anomaly.

I'm certainly diggin' those "bass-thumping toons".
And my battery is just fine ... it's rather appreciative of my mods ... it feels "needed" everytime I turn the volume up.

Like H-D cares about being proactive. Harmon simply cannot be "proactive" here. I think you continue to point the finger at Harmon in hopes they will fix the issue ... because H-D simply doesn't care about fixing it. I'll maintain that this isn't something Harmon can fix (without permission from H-D) ... so bitch to H-D ... and when it goes un-noticed.... bitch MORE.

Don't point fingers at Harmon.

I am having iPod issue also. My iPod disappeared and completely seemed to disconnect from my radio while riding down the highway and now doesn't even appear as a option on my radio screen. The iPod works but doesn't even seem to be recognized any longer by the bike as a play option. Down to just the radio and cd player like my older street glide had. Not very happy. Only 500 miles on the bike.

Not that I'm aware of (though I've not looked for a month or two.)

Just so you know--------------Earlier in this post there is a link to the software upgrades from Harley Davidson for the HK radio as well as the ipod.
I checked mine-----------radio was up to date------------Ipod had 3.7.0, not the latest 3.8.0 so I printed the directions , downloaded the upgrade and transferred it to a disc as the instructions direct.
I did the software upgrade to the ipod successfully --------------and guess what-------------the ipod still does the same thing. Sometimes it syncs and plays and sometimes not. I always just open the saddlebag, unplug it , and replug it and it comes on. ----------------So much for the 3.8.0 software upgrade!!!!????

whenever my ipod would do this, i would unplug it and plug it back in.  then i found that instead of having to do that, if i pressed the soft button for playlist, it would change playlist (but i don't use them, so no real change)  it would start playing again.  it's easier to change playlist then it is to plug/unplug the ipod.

I talked to the Harley reps about this in Sturgis last August and three different people told me they had NEVER heard of the problem a lot of us are experiencing. I gave them my number and they told me that someone from the MOCO that was in charge of such things would call me to discuss. Well they did get back with me a couple of weeks later------- but------ guess what------ they could not duplicate my complaint and said I was the only one that was having the problem that many of us are experiencing.  Imagine that!!
