I own a 2001 Heratige Softail that I had bored to 95" with Branch heads S&S gear drive cams, 45mm Mikuni carb with White Bros 2 into 1 exhaust system and a Dynatech programmable ignition.  I originally had higher compression forged pistons, they worked great.  But I had them changed to the HD flat topics tons because I knew the gass was going to go to s**t.
-I must be a prophet.
Anyway  my bike has plenty of get go, and runs very cool.  (Forgot to mention my oil cooler).
Same thing may help your bike.   :)

know of a good place in north west arkansas that does good work on the 88 to 98 upgrade?

No I don't.   But heads are small.  Easy and cheap to ship anywhere they need to go.

Yes, heads and cylinders are not that large and can be readily shipped. :)

Detail a bit more if you don't mind.  With contemporary cam options and assuming a willingness to touch up the heads with the cams in mind what modern cams would you put with either compression ratio?  Make the other assumption a build for a bagger with early torque in mind.  An engine that in real life would very rarely see north of 4500.

Been a long time since I've done one of those.  Interesting to see what the newer options might suggest.

a VERY nice bagger build we do is 98"(9.8-1),our touring 1.900 SERDI street port headwork & S&S .583 cams.100/115+ all day long with stock like tunability, reliablility dependabilty

Do you suggest stock throttle bodies when doing these jobs or a step up to 50 (or some other alternative)?

We manufacture our own throttle plates, and bore the 2 pc Delphi's from 41-46.5mm, and then the manifold is ported to a 1.700".
Increases the power from bottom to peak, from what we've witnessed.
We've also used 55mm HPI's on 98" engines as well.
Another old/good cam is a little Wood 6, set at 10.2 cr, in those 98"s.
Brian @ T-Man's tuned one our ours years ago, with a ported OEM late model Delphi t/body/D&D Fatcat/our heads.
110/111 in MIGHTY humid conditions I might add.

it really depends on what your looking for.most our customers that want touring builds, the stock T. bodies & stock size runners still give the HP/TQ their looking for and a larger t. body(and runners) will take alittle off the low end(and the low end will suffer the bigger you go)

Have run in to that with 107 builds from 103 when the guys wanted to much over 50mm.  Didn't know where the dividing line would be on the modern version of a 95/98 build with more current cams.  Good to know the stock TB can keep up with the engine that far.  If money doesn't have to spent nor fuel has to be poured no reason to do it.

A ported 1 pc late model OE Delphi, can support snappy grunt combos, but IF the client wants a broader, longer curve, an upgrade to something with a bit more ability to supply the volume needed once it spools off, would be in order.
A NH-based outfit last week tuned to their "guarded amazement", our 98"/Andrews 37 cam/Bassani pipe/HPI 51/our heads/10.0 cr to 110/110, as we were told by the very excited/happy Mass. client just today.
Wouldn't have popped those numbers with an OE t/body, just sayin'. :2vrolijk_21:
BTW, those numbers/power curve would put the hurt on a lot of bikes.

Know it's difficult if not impossible to have the specific comparisons this conversation is now suggesting.  Especially without have pre-planned when the dyno runs were done and being willing to spend the extra time on the dyno for the comparison.  So make a best educated guess if you're willing.

What tq number would that build have shown at 3000 and 3500?
What tq number would that build have shown at the same RPMs with the stock throttle body?

I know it's against the gospel of curb racers but I understand what I ride and how I ride.  It's a bagger.  It will very very rarely see north of 4500.  And then only if I'm downshifting to get around a truck in a hurry when I might not have quite as much space as I'd first thought ( ).

Best info in regards to this will be when the client faxes/e-mails the dyno reports, and then we can compare side/side from this known combination we build.
I do know that either Gary Wallace, or Mike Peterson, GM of Andrews Products is going to have a copy of that chart. :)
