I've been in the sales game for 30 years now. I love it when somebody asks how much my old stuff is worth.

In a negotiation NEVER show your hand or show weakness!  PERIOD!

When you start the conversation not knowing the values in the game you are a dead man walking.

WELL SAID!

GOOGLE THE HELL OUT OF EVERYTHING before you go in to negotiate. They will want to make at least $5000 profit from any ignorance on your part... Let the fools take the hit on the early '14s...

Sell your bike yourself if you have to have the '14. That's what I always do. KBB shows a, $5,000 difference in trade in vs. retail on my Ultra. Never had a problem selling a bike within a couple weeks of listing it.

Thanks for all your responses. After looking at several 14  limited models I really appreciate the finished look and feel of my 13 cvo ultra.I think moco is should have waited a year and introduced a finished product. These appear to be more prototype than production run and do look a bit rushed to market.Im. sure Indians intro rushed it to market.Inner fairing seems way to bare without 6 guages as does radio surround with lots of empty plastic.A little to metric for me at this point. It was the technical advances in cooling and braking that interested me but not enough to pull the trigger this year.

If you have to trade, sell you bike yourself! I had a 18 month old CVO Ultra and it only took a week last September to get good money for it. Good money being better than trade and less than full retail

Its a dealer load of bull dong.  Anytime you trade anything whether its a bike or anything else yours isn't worth squat. The first offer on my 09 FLTRSE3 was $18000 after I finished laughing at them they got serious. It's true you can get more if you sell it yourself but I can't put up with crap that comes with it.

Liberty HD in Rahway NJ told me my 2013 Ultra booked at 25000 and wasnt interested in it.As soon as I mentioned 2013 CVO I was told how no body would want these old bikes with the current improvements.,Another NJ dealer said I could put it on their floor and try to sell it.Dealers have no clue what these 2013 cvos will be worth and arent willing to risk a trade offer.Paint job on 2014 CVO Ultra is not even close to my 2013 and looks like a basic 2 tone paint job.Dash is very bland and lots of painted plastic.Dealers are really alienating their pre 2014 CVO customers.I for one wont consider another CVO anytime soon.

The dealers said the same thing when the 88 became 96 and 103 became 110. Always an excuse to devalue our trades.

If someone does not wish to purchase or even like the 2014's that's cool: When someone likes the 2014's that should also be cool. To each their own and good for them.

Claiming the 2014's are so new that you need to give it time to trust them is a bit off base; at least to me.

-The 2014 frame is the same as the 2009 thru 2013 except for the steering head improvement. Nothing so new that I need to worry.
-The 103 engine has been around for a while, they made upgrades based on experience, they did not create a whole new motor. The water cooled heads are not some high tech wonder, I would say that the most advanced thing they did was the plumbing and that is pretty simple. Yes we have had some leaks, me included but it was quickly fixed.
- the new wiring system is not new, Harley has used for a couple years on other models.
-The tour pack and side bags are new but I really don't see much to go wrong
-The LED lights are new but have been offered before as options or on the CVO, nothing big to worry about
-The brakes are new, Harley has offered ABS since 2008. Linked ABS is a huge safety feature, offered by other manufactures. This again is not something new to the world. I can tell anyone after riding one, they work great.
-The radio is new, but it is covered by warranty

Something to think about

A salesman at Rommel H-D in Annapolis quoted me $22,000 for my 2012 CVO Ultra.  I laughed out loud.

That may all be true, but many times when many changes are made, the first year has problems. It shouldn't be that way, but has been proven out many times. The '14s may prove to be good, or they may have problems. One guy on the HD Forum already had pictures of where his '14 had a cooling fluid leak. In the end, it is just a matter of preference. Personally, I'm not in the market for a new bike just because they improved some areas. There are enough purists out there that will prefer the pre '14 bikes. Even though I'm sure these bikes have been tested, they hadn't been massed produced until now.

I Owned a 2007 SE Ultra, that is why it was such a leap combined with what I felt was a fair differance in money. If I had owned a 2009 to 2013 Limited or CVO I doubt I would have traded. I do feel secure that the 2014 are a great year, the bike feels that dialed in. My 2007 never did when new. After I spent a boat load it still was not close.

I too had an '07 CVO Ultra...3 sets of head gaskets, low oil pressure after the recall...dealer could not find/fix the oil pressure problem, motor company had to put a new engine in it...fortunately for me, it was 10 days after I traded it in on an '09 CVO Ultra...the '07 and the '09 both had a noisy fifth gear...so far my '13 is pretty good...I would not touch a 14 with a 10 foot pole...the radio alone is enough to keep me from buying it...remember the 07 and 09 nav system...the motor company finally got it right with the garmin with lifetime free map updates...what will it cost to update this one?...as far as the radio being under warranty, well it is, but only for two years...again just my opinion, but I thought the paint on the 14 was pretty good

I guess we simply have a difference in opinion. I really like the new GPS system and have no problem with a hard drive based system. My car also has a hard drive based system, they are easy and inexpensive to update. One thing I think we both agree with; the new and newer bikes are a big leap from 2007. I never had the issues you had, in fact the only repairs were the factory recall. I even used the 2007 GPS on several occasions, not the best but it worked. I simply was never comfortable, nor was I able to make the 2007 SE Ultra handle, brake or ride anywhere close to what my new 2014 does. If I owned a 2013 CVO Ultra or Limited Ultra for that matter; I don't think I would have stepped up to the 2014. Time will tell, as I said, lets agree to disagree about the update.

First off I'm glad you are happy and like your new bike :2vrolijk_21:.... however the statement highlighted above I have a hard time understanding. The below post was made earlier in this thread - Navigation Updates...

Well it appears that Harley has found another way to keep us on the hook. It appears that if you want to update your navigation maps it will cost $150.00 per year, that is bad enough but the map that is in the GPS new is already out dated. Boy how does Magellan and Garmin along with others do this at no charge.

Especially when years past there were free lifetime updates offered to the Garmin based navigation systems and those that didn't get free updates paid =/< $100.00 for those lifetime updates. :nixweiss:

I am not going to choose a bike based on GPS updates; It's not like you really need to update every year. I don't. If someone else does; that's cool, just not me. I have gone four years without a update on my car and have never needed it updated. I never updated the GPS disc on my 2007 SE Ultra, as I said before; to each their own, the most import thing is riding and enjoying our Harleys
