On page 50 of the latest American Iorning mag, Donny Petersen talks about Jims Powerglide ll
Lifters.  He sez it's the only lifter on the market (as far as he knows) that has oil feed to the roller axle.
Anybody have experience with these?

After the dealings we've had with that outfit, we steer clear of most of their products......

I ran them for 1000 Miles then replaced them with HD B's. I can tell you the Jim's are really noisy and if they are getting oiled better then seems they would be quieter. :confused5:

Read some of the threads and posts around here about JIMS 124 and 131 engines, the problems folks have had, and the ridiculous responses from JIMS.  Their quality and customer service makes Harley's quality and customer service look good by comparison.  They also have had a pretty spotty record with the other lifters they've sold over the years, including the ones sold by H-D as Screamin' Eagle parts.  JIMS would not be my first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, ..., or tenth choice.  Go with a company that has a long record of good quality and service, and stands behind their products versus hides behind BS.  I think some "made in the USA" S&S lifters would be a very good choice.

Jims has a new lifter and its suposedly better. They got rid of the rollers for bearings and went with a bushing instead. So this obviously tells me they knew something was wrong. I still wouldnt usse them.
If you guys want a good lifter. Compcams makes a good lifter and they even have lifters with travel limiters. I would use them on smaller cams with lifts under .590, but all other cams I will always use Gatermans.

There is no downside to using travel limiters.  With stock or mild builds, there's not necessarily a strong reason to use them.  More aggressive builds can benefit from use of limiters.

The limiters can help with starting a high compression build when hot. Even stop it from kickback.
Hate to sound like a broken record but Gatermans is the only lifter I will ever use. I've been running them on a build that sees a whole lot of Dyno shootouts and upper RPMs. This is on a set of 660 lift cams. All is as quiet as stock. The Gatermans are 150 for the set. Hard to beat that deal. JMHO
FYI part number gp1023 has extra wide shoulder for high lift cams. We're most other lifters have a short. Having a longer shoulder puts more surface area on the lifter bore. This will help prevent lifter bore scaring and wear on high lift cams with high spring pressure.

For $110 more then the Gatermans you can get the S&S with only one feed hole to the plunger and no feed to the cam roller.

Hi Folks, I looking for some advice here.

My buddy and I are shipping our bikes into Orlando from the UK, and starting a 20 k mile tour of the US. He rides a FLHTCUSE6 with 10 k miles on the clock and I ride a FLHTCUSE7 with 2k on the clock.
This lifter failure is pretty close to my worst nightmare. If it occurs whilst we're touring it will wreck the tour, big time!!

So this is what I'm thinking.

As a preventative measure, get the lifters swapped out for S&S or Gatermans as soon as possible in Florida. We are both happy to stay with the stock cams for this tour. My bike is still under warranty, but thats no comfort if the engine is dead !! Screws the tour !!

What do you guys think? Anybody know a good shop near Orlando?
Does this plan make sense, or am I suffering from paranoia ?

You guys make this the very best forum, your tech knowledge and advice is second to none, thank you.

Cheers

Jon

I'm glad to learn about the poor experiences many have had with JIMS, I'll steer clear of their stuff.  :)
