It might depend on the bike's availability and how it competes with new CVOs of the same model. I'm thinking my 2014 CVO Breakout will sell in the future since they are no longer offered. Two years and done. Less than 700 with my color. My HD dealer had a '14 blaze orange CVO Breakout resale on the floor for 3 days and sold it for MSRP. Bike had Vance and Hines pipes with Super Tuner and 1000 miles. If you have a bagger, you are competing with so many other nice baggers each year. Your bike is not all that unique, so it might not sell so well. Just my opinion. No offense intended.  ::)

I stopped by dealer Friday. Ask what I could trade my 2011 CVO ROAD GLIDE ULTRA for a 2015 CVO ROAD GLIDE ULTRA. He said I can't sell CVO,s. He said he takes them all to auction for wholesale. Offered to trade for $20,000.00. Mine only has 3000 miles due to rotator cuff surgery. Well that's too much loss. I bought it late 2011 when I found out they were not making in 2012. Well I got fooled. So after I got the heat out it, ride as cool as my 2008 ultra classic. I'll just keep em an forget about buying anything.
Maybe go for another Gold Wing after I tire of the ones I have.

Good point about dealers having trouble selling used cvo's. I heard this from my dealer as well and I do understand it. Part of this is obviously location. My dealer is a bit out in the sticks, whereas in a more of a bustling city environment he might have more potential customers for cvo's.

The other part of this is the competition. This year in particular I have seen a ton more Victory's on the road than in previous years. I still don't like them myself, but they've made enough re-designs and improvements to put a dent into Harley cruiser sales.

Plus the economy is still so depressed that there are not many buyers of big bucks bikes

Fortunately I have a long standing good relationship with my dealer and he has put my used cvo on his showroom floor at no charge

I hope this trend is accurate and continues. We need someone to push Harley.

I can see why one can't get top dollar for a pre '14 CVO now.  We're still in a slow economy, the CVO novelty has waned due to HD producing so many in recent yrs.  Remember when there were only two CVO models per yr and they were hard to find?  Well now there are unsold '14 CVOs still on the floor.  Why buy a used CVO when you can buy a Project Rushmore tourer with all the new additions, plus a two yr warranty.  If I were looking for another bike now, I'd take a '14 or '15 Tourer over a used CVO.

I didn't think there were all that many made in 2011 CVO RGU.  I think I read somewhere there were only 1100 in the black quartz world wide produced? If you consider non CVO models, which I don't know about. It seems like a small percentage. I'm I wrong about this?

44 whole posts!  I imagine that your charm came shining through to help seal the deal with the deadbeats.

NEWSFLASH.  The internet does not stop at the US border

for the record....my experience with 2 prospective Canadian buyers.  First one text back and forth for a week dickering on price, then another week telling me he is working with his bank to wire the funds so title will be clear when he picks it up.  turns out he couldn't finance cheese on a whopper.  2nd one was a dealer who wanted to purchase it.  Spoke with him several times, made arrangements for him to come look at it early in the day and that would give enough time for him to call his bank to send the funds.  He called the night before we were to meet and confirmed that we would meet the next day.  I took the day off work and he was a no show and would not respond to my calls or texts.

Both deadbeats in my book.  I in no way intended to imply that all Canadians are deadbeats.

Welcome to the world of trying to sell something yourself.  This is why I trade my old bikes/cars in, so I don't have to deal with the turds.

I find selling things privately to be quite a chore. Too many tire kickers. I would rather just trade mine and save big bucks on the tax. Probably a wash and easier in the end IMO

There were about 11k CVOs (all models) produced in 2011.  If I recall correctly, in 2003, approx 6k.

Bottom line, HD CVOs are now over produced and over priced.
I think Harley has lost tier dam minds. Even 25k for a motorcycle is outrageous. The biggest problem with resale in and around my market is that it's a seasonal toy. We can't use them for year round transportation so it's more of a luxury than a necessity. They don't sell in the winter unless they are drastically under priced.
Seems like Indian coming back to the market has had no effect on Harleys offerings. Still the same old chit, low tech over priced name plate. Even Indian has CVO bling like an integrated tps system, 111ci engine  and the list goes on as standard features for a lot less money?.?.
HDs soap box days are gone and they may be too if they don't beef up their offerings with pricing that's in line with the competition,  just sayin.

Started out in 1999 with about 1800 total units.  For 2013 they produced over 12,000 units, not sure how many in 2014.  The prices have climbed significantly, the quality has declined significantly, and the economy of this country (and much of the world) has taken a huge hit in recent years.  I'd suggest that all of the above are responsible for the current situation, not just one item.

Same here... I know that I will take a hit on the trade in, but benefit from the savings in the tax, and not have to deal with strangers...  :2vrolijk_21:

Just too many of the newer CVO's out there.  If you flood the market with something, there is bound to be left over.  The MoCo has done that with CVO's these later years.  Had the opportunity to visit Heart of Dixie HD just south of Birmingham on Sunday.  Great dealership (huge) but not many bikes (14's or 15's).  They did have on RG special (had a sold sign on it) but got a chance to look it over.  Very nice changes.

Anyway, they had only one used CVO ('13 SEEG) but three 2014 CVO Softail Deluxe (in all three colors offered) with $2000 discount stickers on all three.  Along beside them was one 2014 SERK (in the dark green) with the same sign on it (discount $2000).  For me in the K'ville area, you don't normally see these type of discount signs until later in the Fall toward Christmas.  Spoke with the one of the sales guys and all 4 of the new "14 CVO's left had been on their floor for over 6 months.  Just too many options out there now (HD and non) to sway those to the more expensive CVO's.  Seeing that many left over "special" models all over the country tells the entire story.

However, if you are sitting on the fence waiting for the right price on a new CVO, now seems to be a good time to jump....

3300 FLHRSEI2's (Road Kings)
The compliment to it was a Duece.
No idea how many of those were built
in 2000, the year the brand CVO 1st appeared, there were 1550
What year did the Red and Gold Leaf SuperGlide appear - -2000 ?  How many ?
I think the same for the 2001 CVO Road Kings in Purple and Candy Brandywine but if memory serves there was also a CVO Super Glide
Many consider the FXR II and FXR III to be CVO's but they were not branded as such.
H-D has always had runs of limited edition. The orginal Heritage Electra Glide Shovelhead in Khaki and orange with leather bags. The Moo Glide, Both runs of the Sturgis, The Daytona SuperGlide. The Sportser Cafe Racer was produced in low numbers and on and on. So it's noteworthy that in 2000 H-D finally decided to add a designator to the model name to denote a limited run ( as we're discussing here, limited being a rather subjective adjective)
