Don't worry about it everyone will do it a time or two. I've found it the most difficult in major metro areas (DC) where traffic is congested and you have to watch your @$$ more then you can pay attention to the map. The GPS is telling you to stay "straight" on a road and it's several roads all running together and you stay on what you think is the right road only to find out you should have veered a little to the left/right. You'll hear "recalculating" a few times and not even let it bother you. :)

LOL!  That's exactly how my Zumo navigation usually goes.....it helps to have a general idea of where you are and where you are heading and use the Zumo as a adjunctive support and not 'fly blind' with it......The compass feature is helpful also if you get turned around in a city at night.  But, it is esp. helpful in and around large metro areas (that's usually where I'm lost)  ::) har!  spyder

Locating cities without putting in an address?
« Reply #602 on: September 03, 2008, 09:18:54 PM »

Quick questions to the experts...

With the Zumo 550, can you search for a city without putting in an address?
With my 2730 I can just search city and it routes to the city center..... what about a Zumo?

What about waypoints, can you insert them into a current route?
How about auto calculate waypoints? Does the Zumo calculate the quickest route through all you waypoints on a route?

Also, what about metric/standard units of measure? Can I custominze and have MPH and kilometers(odometer) at the same time?

PS, can you tell I am really close to replacing my loved 2730 and want to make sure I am doing the right thing??

Yes, you can search for a city with no address.
Yes, you can modify an active or saved route by adding additional way points.
The route it calculates varies somewhat on how you have the avoidances set. But basically it will take the shortest path from way point to way point.
Yes, you can change the readings to kph. I did it last year while riding in Canada.

Anyone have any insight on the future of the Zumo's? Seems they've been around a while and I would imagine they are due for a revamp of the product line? Seeming best Buy blow them out a while back, I thought that was the first clue, but I haven't seen anything since.

Just purchased my Zumo. I've scanned this thread but have a question that might have already been answered.

Is there a way to keep the splash screen on after the unit is activated?  That would look cool.

Thanks!

Other then the initial start up that screen can only be displayed if you click on "Wrench" > "User Data" > "Pictures" to view it again. There isn't a provision to set your own "wallpaper" in the Zumo. I guess they (Garmin) thought most people were going to using the map feature most of the time. :nixweiss:

Yeah, I'd like to hang out for a while for the next updates. Seems I'm always the guy who buys something right before a major update, so I figured I'd try to keep my ear to the ground. Maybe I'll play it right for a change.
