Does anyone know if the 09 110's use chains or gears for the cams?  :nixweiss:

HD will NEVER go with gears again! Too noisy to pass EPA. And that POS Chinese crank can't be trusted for the consistant minimum runout required to run gears! Again, another pipe dream! ;)

Tensioners? The new Hydraulic System is much more reliable it seems. Check the shoes, but at similar intervals, the hydraulic shoes show virtually no wear at the point the old spring loaded jobs were looking pitiful! ;)

Started reading part 2 while standing at the mag rack in wal-mart, didn't make it through the first page before I knew I wasn't coughin' up another $6 for this story.  Is he getting paid for this stuff?  Started drifting off and found myself thumbin' through Combat Handguns,  Now there is a good read.

He keeps talking about the 'beehive' springs that H-D went to in 2004 and in his part #2  he said they started using them in 03 , well ,I have worked on 100s of twin cam heads and NEVER saw 'beehive' valve springs until 2005 heads ! ALL 04 heads {tc} had 5/16" stem valves and double springs. 05 they went with 7mm valve stems and single {beehive} springs. Dewey

There's always three sides to a story. I wouldn't know a beehive from a cam chain. But this does show the lack of credibility of the author (not you Dewey).

New American Iron {CVO 110"} issue
« Reply #100 on: January 12, 2009, 09:58:34 AM »

Donny cut the cyl. apart and its hard to tell from pic, but looks like they are 'spiney locked'. I was told {AXTELL} that they were smooth on the outside {sleeve} . Why are the 'shifting'. He even tried to press them out. ????????

In the issue of American Ironing I just received, it sounds like they need a whole new engine design!  New cylinders and a redesigned case.  Other than lowering the AFR, there doesn't seem to be a real fix that you can do, other than Axtell jugs or something similar.
Anybody get anything different out of the article?

Donnie is making this a real project.  Keep the people on the edge of their toilet seats reading, waiting for the next issue when he really, really tells you what's wrong.  Although, he tells you what it could be and then disproves it.
For Example:
The 110" motor is the only motor with ACRs.  Let's see if the ACRs are causing the problem.  Blah, blah ,blah.  No it can't be the ACRs because both front and rear cylinders have ACRs and only the rears leak.  You can replace "ACR" with any other part of the motorcycle and write another paragraph or two.

For sure Donnie's dragging this whole thing out.  Personally, I would rather just have a summary of what the hell the problem really is.  Possibly he would like people to get so confused that they just want to make a summer vacation trip to his shop and have them do whatever it is they want to do to bring it up to Donnie's specs.  -Probably better bring somewhere between $5-10 grand with you when you go.

Youze aren't really waiting for this schmuck from American Ironing to tell ya what's going on, are ya? We already know what's going on. We brought it to their attention. We've fixed em ourselves, and now after 2 bad years hopefully HD has too! Heat, bad gaskets, bad ACR's, and bad cylinders. The pistons are crap too BTW! :confused5: :nixweiss: :nixweiss: :nixweiss: ;)
