For years I've wanted a Road Glide!!

After owning a number of bikes (over a dozen) and building one from the ground up; all of which I spent $$$$$$$ adding chrome and horsepower after purchase, I thought I would do something a little differently.

This spring I decided it was time for a Road Glide.

When I saw the Silver/Titanium 09 SERG, I decided that was the machine for me!

I still added $$$$ to it after I bought it and I'm not finished, but the wife and I love riding that bike.

Cuz ya can't build a 110ci, custom painted, chromed out, custom body work, ABS break equipped Road Glide for anywhere near $30k and have a extended warrenty too............that's why. Not to mention any Harley shop it the USA will work on it. Didja know that, according to Harley, CVO Owners put MORE annual miles on their bikes than stock bike owners..........there ain't very many Hanger Queens in this group.

I own a 2003 Softail Standard with much custom work (pictures to come once I'm back from deployment) and was in need of a bagger to go along with my wifes '07 Road King.    A FLHX was on my radar screen when the 2010 CVO's were marched out-I was hooked!  I don't like to be a follower so the CVO line fits me well given great paint, custom wheels, and limited production.  My wife is a great rider and big fan of H-D but thinks I'm crazy for spending the extra money on a CVO Street Glide but then again she'll spend $2700 on one curtain for our dining room that gets used once a year-HA!  She has since warmed up to my purchase but maybe thats becasue I've been deployed for the past 9 months and she feels sorry for me.  Either way a Tequila Sunrise FLHXSE awaits me when I get back in December along with a great wife and three beautiful children.  For the record I paid 9% below MSRP through military sales so life is good.  Can't wait to saddle up again if you know what I mean.  ;)

I became interested in the CVO bikes around mid 2004, after realizing I had 34K in my 03 Fatboy.

In 08 I decided it was time to add a touring bike to go with the Fatboy.  I really wanted the street glide.  I figured out the price of a street glide, plus the 18 rims and tires, building the motor, the front end chrome and other stuff, and it was over 31K.  So I figured I would wait until the 09's were released as I figured they would have a CVO street glide.  They did not, but they did have the SERG.  It was the first road glide I ever liked the looks of.  I had always heard they were the best riding fairing bike.  So I bought one.  I have zero regrets.  This is the closest to what I have wanted in a bike off the show room.

As of now I have about the same money in the Fatboy and the SERG, and I like the SERG much more.  I also feel in the long run the SERG will retain more value of the total money spent.

In 1999 there was still a waitng list for a new Harley (at least in the Chicago are where I live).  Most stores were T-Shirt shops with little or no bikes.  There was a "dealer" near Joliet, IL that was buyng them new accross the country them selling them as "used" but for hundreds over the MSRP.  Example: I went in looking at a Wide Glide. I'm not sure what it retailed at in '99 but I recall the price was around $12,000.  The MSRP on the bike was probably $8k or $9k. (I'm sure there is someone on this site that knows for sure).

Anyway, walked into Crete HD and they just got word that day that they were going to get a Green FXR3.  The dealer had a brochure to show me and after much negotiation he let me put $1,000 down to hold it.  Got it for MSRP $17,999.00 plus taxes etc.

I figured it was a better deal to pay the premium for a CVO than an overpriced Wide Glide.

Been many pleasurable miles since June of '99 and hope to put on many many more!

I purchased my CVO last summer with all my hard earned deployment money from Iraq.  I was originally looking to purchase a stock RK or SG, and then add my custom touch.  But when I walked into my dealership, I saw the 105th SERK, and loved it.  I did some math in my head about what I was planning on doing to a stock Harley I would purchase, and then weighed the options and price between that, and the CVO package.  When the dealer told me they would knock off a couple of thousand dollars, I was sold.  Now that I have my CVO, I can't imagine going back to a stock Harley.  I love the exclusivity of being a CVO owner, and it turns heads wherever I go.  Once I finish it off with my painted hard bags, and matching front fairing w/audio, I will probably never get rid of it.  Also looking forward to purchasing another CVO in the future, without bags....  Time will tell!

The missus and me out for a ride on our Ultra 1 day, stopped for a "cold beverage". This couple pulled up next to us on their BANANA, I looked at the bike with lust, talked with the owner for a good while and my wife said, OH BABY NOT AGAIN!! I never got it out of my system, and 2 years later I stopped by a dealer in Anniston, AL and there it was on the showroom floor. I took to long to seal the deal, missed out, and was PI$$ed to say the least. The wife even called me bad words for not buying that bike. I swore I would never miss another chance, so I didn't. I found mine from a former member of this site and the rest is history. We still love our Ultra, still ride it on long trips so I can pull the Bushtec behind (it's a woman packing thing). I did Maggie Valley this weekend, 1 up, clocked 1045 miles on the BANANA and lots of folks asked about my "very yellow bike". IT JUST DON'T GET NO BETTER!!!! Now I am trying to convince her we need a SERG to add to the collection, I'm workin' it!

Never owned a HD in the past... Couldn't tell you the difference between models, much less knowing what a CVO was. Had a Goldwing, put 100K miles on it in 5 years, sold it and bought a BMW 1150GS, so I could get off the beaten path a little. Then I got orders to Japan, and left the BMW back in the States. Made the mistake of stopping and chatting with the Military Sales guy one day... and he gave me the 09 HD brochure... when I hit the CVO page, it was game over. My GW was yellow also, and when I saw the Yellow SERG, I fell in love. I tried to forget her... but found myself sneaking peeks at the brochure... lusting after her.

So I told myself that if I made E9, it would be my gift to myself. I made it, and the rest was history.

I have talked a lot of dookie about HDs in the past, engaging in good natured ribbing with my HD riding pals... but the truth is, I just like to ride... and it doesn't matter what name is on the side of the bike. And I'll also admit, while I always said I'd "never buy  a bike I couldn't ride anywhere" I did feel the pull of having a cool looking ride that stood out from the average bike. And the amazing thing was, after buying the SERG sight unseen (other than pictures, and lots of reading on this board), I am completely satisfied. Well, I was, until all you folks have convinced me of all the improvements I "need' to make to this bike to make it perfect... lol

Resale value has never been a factor in my bike purchase decisions... I bought the damn thing to ride it, not as an investment. If I ever get tired of it, and decide to move on to something else (I am keeping my GS, so I can enjoy dual sport riding also), then I'll pass it along for a good deal to someone who will enjoy it, and move on to my next "shiny object." But I got a feeling this bike ain't going anywhere any time soon... becuase after 3 days and 1200 miles riding her... I'm even more in love!  :bananarock:
