When my buddy's Goldwing is in traffic and the fan's are running you can cook a freakin' hot dog in front of the air outlet... The motor won't melt down, but you might!

Don't forget, water cooled engines also produce heat.  And when that radiator fan kicks in, it won't be much more comfortable than sitting on top of that air cooled dinosaur.  The improvement isn't necessarily in rider comfort, it is in all the nice things a consistent engine temperature does for mechanical efficiency and longevity.

Oh yea, I know...sittin' on a Vrod will let you know that in a hurry when it's 95 degrees outside.  On the other hand, it feels pretty good when it's 40.

I'm going to buck the trend and say that while I don't think they should make a wholesale move, I do think I'd be very interested to test out a pumped up version of the V-Rod motor. Figure at around 2000cc, with the right camming, and tuning, they should be able to get the TQ up within usable range, with vastly increased overall performance. With the right exhaust, you should still be able to get a tough sound, and I'm not so sure I'd miss the unbalanced motor. Shove this all into a CVO Ultra, with better performance and more economy, I think I'd really be interested in something like that.

Let's say a larger displacement V-Rod motor... gaining the displacement with stroke...  square (bore/stroke equal) or slightly undersquare (more stroke than bore)... was built, the personality of the engine would be a whole lot different. Might give up the pure rpm = performance thing for a more usable package. Instead of 105 hp/79 tq maybe 100hp/110tq? You'd like that, wouldn't ya?

mrmagloo has a point and elaborated well. Make an extra limited line as a tester. Heck Ford went with a hybrid model they did not drop the gasoline motor altogether in one model year. :huepfenlol2: People do not like rapid change and some things take time.

I was hoping for numbers north of that as I'm running 102/115 now with my 103, and like they say, you can never have enough performance. But yes, I think if they could get into the low 100's for HP, and in the 120's for TQ, with over 90 to 100 TQ from 2,000 on, I think that would be a heck of a package. I'd even hope for better numbers, but...

I'd hope they'd be able to get in the mid-40's for MPG, and by virtue of a balanced motor, something that doesn't shake itself to death or force you to invest in case of locktite to avoid losing pieces. That said, I'm not talking about the sanitized feel of a GW, but with the same V-Twin, it should have a little thump with a tough sounding exhaust.

And as Dr. D stated, I'm envisioning this special edition in the same vision as say the Black CUSE of last year. Kind of a stand alone that will not sacrifice the traditional models, and see what happens. If you tie the new Rev II motor with the top of the line, that will be perceived as the next gen pinnacle and with a successful intro, encourage larger and larger numbers of folks to long for the trickle down.

Like I said, if I could shove something like this into an existing CVO Ultra, I'd jump at the opportunity to put it through it's paces.

In my ever so humble opinion when the weight to HP ratio gets below 5.5:1 you're pretty much there. I'm at 5.29:1 and it's definitely enough.

I'd agree a weight to HP ratio of anywhere near 5.5:1 would be fantastic, especially considering a stock 2011 SEUC is probably near 9 to 1.

More like 11.5 to 1 actually.  933 lbs wet without rider, and about 81 rear wheel hp stock.

It's a shame they can't seem to figure out how to put the bikes on a diet.  Used to be that 600 to 700 lbs was a big bike.  It wasn't all that long ago that an eglide only tipped the scales in the low 800's, and there was a time when a heavyweight bike was usually in the 650 to 750 lb range.  No wonder they have to keep upping displacement.

So true, Jerry.  What I wouldn't give to be able to shave a couple hundred lbs. off my scooter.  My FLSTN weighs less than the FLHTCSE and I can really tell the difference in handling, especially.  Still a big heavy bike, but it's amazing how much the added pounds add up from year to year on the touring bikes.  And then we add on add'l. weight after we get them....power amps, extra chrome, lights, speakers w/big magnets, etc. :nervous:  spyder

Add to that the additional weight that I have put on and now I need a 110 to leave the driveway.  :'(
