There's a real easy way around that, if it's true. Don't let a dealer do the mods, do them yourself or at an independent shop.Jerry
My local dealer told me that a SERT will definitely void your warranty! He said there is no way around it. He said that when a dealer installs a SERT, that information is downloaded in the dealers computer and later sent automatically to the MOCO at the end of everyday and that the MOCO will "blackflag" your VIN# and if you have any warranty issues the MOCO won't honor the warranty. He said it is just like putting a trailer hitch on your bike. You are screwed!! He said it will void your entire warranty- even on issues like the radio!!! I asked him what if I buy the SERT and install it myself. He said the SERT is permanently stored in the ECM even if you "uninstall" it later and HD will find this out if you ever have a major engine warranty issue. I told my local dealer about a dealer 120 miles away that is doing Stage I A/C, V&H slip ons, and SERT on most of their '07's on the showroom floor, and that dealer said they would do the same on my bike and that it wouldn't affect my warranty. He said, well that dealer may stand behind the bikes, but the MOCO won't and if you break down miles from home other dealers won't be able to honor the warranty because your VIN has been black flaged w/ the MOCO.
My local dealer says he has the same factory service rep as the other dealer 120 miles away, and the factory rep specificly told them that any mods to the exhaust or ECM will void the warranty, and that HD is serious about this!!! My local dealers advice to me ("as a friend" --I've bought 4 bikes from him, and referred several other friends and relatives to him who have bought bikes from him) is to leave my '07 SE Ultra "stock" until the warranty expires or at least until HD develops a street legal "remap" flash for the '07's that won't void the warranty. I asked him if the remap is in the works. He said the MOCO isn't talking.
I asked him about a PC and he said that will void the warranty. The only way around it would be to remove the PC, aftermarket mufflers, StageI A/C and return the bike to stock before having any warranty issues looked at. Pretty hard to do if you break down on the road miles from home.
I told him it is ridiculous that HD could void your entire warranty due to a SERT, and he shrugged and said, "I am just telling you as a friend so you don't find this out later when and if you have a warranty issue and try to blame us." He said his dealership is just as pissed as me about all of this but he is just following what the MOCO has laid down as the law!!!
I was going to take my bike to the dealer 120 miles away, ( they have worked on my other bikes before), and have the Stage I A/C, SERT, and V&H slip-ons done after my break-in, but my local dealer (whom I bought the bike from) has the $hit scared out of me because I don't want to have to fight w/ the MOCO over any warranty issues.
