Congrats to you. You are truly one of the fortunate ones, I envy you
Yes you are and I wish I knew how to be, lol.  Like Rooster I suffered through all the '07 110 motor problems.  Still have the bike with 88k and on its third motor.  Last one was at 82k due to disintegrating lifter taking out the cam bearings, oil pump and just about everything else inside the motor.

And just last month at almost 23k my '12 suffered a catastrophic motor failure due to, you guessed it, valve lifter failure.  After what happened on my '07 I was planning to inspect the lifters on the '12 at about 25k but never made it that far.

Don't know why I am so 'lucky.'  '12 is bone stock and '07 just has a/c, pipes and TTS tune.  All I do is ride normally so it cannot be that I am hard on the bikes.

The life of these 110 motors is just that, life.  You know how it is going to end, you just don't know when.

Love this part-- I also love my 09 Road Glide. Pushing 50K on it. HD hasn't come out with anything yet that I would trade for. I had the lifters go out along with everything in the motor because of the metal shavings and had to rebuild the motor at 30K.  But I still love the bike and love riding it more. I will replace the lifters though this winter--as a precaution before it happens again.

There's a common theme here... HARLEY LIFTER FAILURES taking out entire engines...

Really sorry you guys experienced this, but that's why I DON'T run Harley lifters. There are WAY too many failure stories out there.

I've logged over 20,000 miles on my CVO without an issue. My friends have done the same. All I hear on hear on this forum is how the lifters fail, the cranks fail, and especially how terrible HD is treating people. It's becoming a downer and the three of us in my group with CVO's don't even want to login. We love riding and have done for decades. We love our bikes and have absolutely no issues. My dealer doesn't know know of any real issues with the 110's in particular. The 2014's look nice but not enough for me to trade my Kryptonite. I don't hate the 14's at all and don't really think they will have any great issues. I know I don't post cause I'm out riding. My CVO is awesome!

I will guess you are enjoying a 110 CVO, I'm guessing later generation 110 motor (manufactured later than 10/08). Brief history lesson, the poor soles that purchased the 2007 CVO 110's  were unpaid employees or interns of the Research and Development Team of Harley Davidson, to get this fine job all you had to do was hand over $30,000. and ride a motorcycle till it broke. How could I refuse, where do I sign, let me start riding, such a deal, just 5 brand new crate motors within 11,000 miles. That's the Motor Company.

Now to address your issue, it was this site with the vast complaints and knowledge that forced the Motor Company to fix a majority of their mscues within the 110 motor. So be brave hide all sharp objects when you log on because when you need CVO help this site will help you, as they helped me.

Rob,

Black Ops lifters are made by Headquarters. They are very good, quiet lifters. You won't hear that rat-a-tat-tat... At least not from these lifters!

http://www.head-quarters.com/html/lifters.html

Product number HQ-4200-04, sold in sets of 4. Around $200/ set but their prices may have changed.

The website isn't very good, and you can't order online... you have to call them to order.

I loved my 2011 CVO Ultra, almost brought a tear to my eye watching it leave today on it's new owners trailer but then I thought about
my new 2014 CVO Limited that should be at the dealer any day now  :bananarock: Like any other product there are people that are negative just to be negative
and then there are people that have a legit reason to complain, and if it's done in a positive manner then we all benefit from learning about the
problem and any solutions for the problem that maybe available, and sometimes even the MOCO listens and we all benefit from factory improvements.
Just my 2 cents..

I have experienced lifter problems first hand and it is very exasperating to say the least when your pride and joy needs a whole bunch of new engine parts before you reach the 10,000 mile service. BUT I absolutely LOVE this bike!!  We just got back from a vacation trip that included some time(1200+ miles) on a rental 2013 FLHTCU  -- non SE -- and man was I glad to get home and see/ride my CVO, the time spent on the rental highlighted some of the reasons why I have the CVO

Don't look at it as negativity look at it as friendly guidance about some inherent issues with the 110's (and HD's in general) to be aware of. The members here a treasure trove of GREAT information you can turn to whenever you have a question about doing any repairs/mods.

Like you I Like the new 2014's - just not enough to part with the '11.5 yet. But those new bag latches are the cats meow, might have to look into those as a mod...

Nope... they are exactly the same size as the Harley lifters. I run the Feuling adjustable rods for other reasons... but they are not needed for the HQ Black Ops lifters.

I can understand both sides of this debate.

My FLHXSE was my first Harley, and I didn't really know what to expect.  From the beginning, it made all kinds of ticking, clanking, and banging noises.  Stock, it backfired, stalled, burned a ton of oil, had gas fumes that nearly choked me, and needed 2 compensators in 17k miles.  All of the dealerships in the area I went to said "That's normal."  I really had no way of knowing any better.

Now I have a '13 Ultra, and can't believe what a difference there is.  It's mechanically quiet, it runs just fine with stock fueling (still hot, of course), it's more comfortable, doesn't burn oil, and has run without a hiccup so far.

I can't believe the two bikes came from the same company and share almost all major components.  The Mothership makes a decent product, but I have personally experienced the lack of consistency in HD's bikes.  And I still have to say, I am very disappointed by most of the dealerships' service and integrity.

I have a 2011 blue cvo ultra & love it. Have had no problems with it except the stock seat sucked, Mustang to the rescue & problem solved. I have had new trucks, cars & suv's that had problems also. That is what warranty is for. I like the way the 14's look but have not seen a color I like better than Blue. Until they come out with something I like better will ride the one I have. I have learned a lot reading the post's on this website & really enjoy it. I feel sorry for those that have had major problems but guess I am lucky as I have had none. Thanks to all for all the good info, keep it coming  . . . . .

Just gotta get one made on a Wednesday afternoon... or better yet on a Thursday.

Tuesday night is bowling league in York, so they are nearly sober by Wednesday afternoon.

Tuesday afternoon is marginal at any time of year... as their minds are all on bowling...

Wednesday night is Church Night (no drinking)... therefore Thursday is the best day.

Thursday evening is Bingo Night at the Elks Club... so all bikes made on a Friday are TOTAL CHIT! Plus, Friday Happy Hour is coming up, so their minds are not on their work...

Monday is right out during football (and NASCAR) season ... as is Tuesday morning, from Monday Night Football hangovers.
